Η σημερινή ανακοίνωση του Δήμου Λάρνακας (εδώ) και η συνάντηση όλων των τοπικών αρχόντων της πόλης για το θέμα του λιμανιού-μαρίνας επιβεβαιώνουν αυτό που γράφει εδώ και 2 χρόνια το SkalaTimes: οι εμπαιγμοί στο θέμα του λιμανιού-μαρίνας Λάρνακας έχουν ξεπεράσει κάθε προηγούμενο.
Δυστυχώς, μετά το ναυάγιο της ΚΙΤΙΟΝ, ο επενδυτής ζήτησε να πάρει πίσω το έργο, αλλά οι αρχές (τοπικές και κράτος) δεν ήθελαν να του δώσουν μια ευκαιρία, άσχετα αν μπορούσε να αποδείξει πως έχει το κεφάλαιο και άσχετα αν είχε ήδη εγκεκριμένες τις άδειες του master plan, κάτι που σημαίνει σοβαρή εξοικονόμηση χρόνου.
Το γιατί έγινε αυτό θα πρέπει κάποια στιγμή, σοβαρά και τεκμηριωμένα, να το εξηγήσουν στον κόσμο της Λάρνακας, για να καταγραφεί στην ιστορία της πόλης. Ατάκες του τύπου «δεν τον θέλαμε, δεν του είχαμε εμπιστοσύνη» δεν είναι σοβαρές όταν μιλάμε για έργο δισεκατομμυρίων και όταν όλοι γνωρίζουμε πως, για μεγάλα έργα σαν αυτό του λιμανιού-μαρίνας Λάρνακας, μπαίνουν εγγυητικές, υπογράφονται συμβόλαια κ.τ.λ.
Γιατί δεν δώσατε το έργο πίσω στον επενδυτή που το ήθελε και έλεγε ότι είχε τα λεφτά και μπορούσε να ξεκινήσει τα έργα άμεσα;
Δυστυχώς, ενώ όλες οι πόλεις ήταν ΟΚ να βρουν επενδυτή, εμείς, μια πόλη με αεροδρόμιο, με κοντινές αποστάσεις από τη Λευκωσία, τη Λεμεσό και την ελεύθερη Αμμόχωστο, πειστήκαμε πως δεν μπορεί να βρεθεί επενδυτής για τη Λάρνακα, παρά μόνο το κράτος.
Όταν αυτό έρχεται και από αυτούς που βρίσκονται σε θέσεις για να εξυπηρετούν τον επιχειρηματικό κόσμο της πόλης… ε, makes you wonder.
Γιατί δεν ψάξατε για άλλους επενδυτές όταν αποφασίσατε πως δεν θέλατε τον επενδυτή της ΚΙΤΙΟΝ, που ζητούσε πίσω το έργο;
Δυστυχώς, οι εμπαιγμοί ξεκίνησαν από τον Γενάρη του 2025, όταν η Επιτροπή Ανάπτυξης Λάρνακας πήγε στο Προεδρικό και η λύση πήρε το όνομα ΤΑΙΠΕΔ. Από εκεί και μετά, οι εμπαιγμοί ήταν φανεροί. Για όσους ήθελαν να βλέπουν καθαρά.
Γιατί ο Δήμαρχος, οι βουλευτές και τα κόμματα δεν βγήκαν ήδη στους δρόμους, όταν εδώ και 2 χρόνια ο εμπαιγμός είναι ολοφάνερος;
Δυστυχώς, η πόλη κοιμάται και ξυπνά με ωραίες ανακοινώσεις και υποσχέσεις, ενώ ο εμπαιγμός για το λιμάνι-μαρίνα είναι ξεκάθαρος. Όποιος κάνει ότι δεν τον βλέπει ή έχει περιορισμένη αντίληψη ή συμφέροντα ή κομματικές ή άλλες παρωπίδες.
Κρίμα.
Αυτή η πόλη και, προπαντός, οι επόμενες γενιές άξιζαν καλύτερα!
Larnaca’s Great “Runaround” Over the Port-Marina Project

Today’s announcement by the Municipality of Larnaca (here), together with the meeting of all the city’s local authorities on the port-marina issue, confirms what SkalaTimes has been reporting for the past two years: the runaround over Larnaca’s port-marina project has reached unprecedented levels.
Sadly, following the collapse of the Kition project, the investor asked to take the project back. Yet the authorities — both local and central government — were unwilling to give the investor a chance, regardless of whether he could prove that he had the necessary capital and regardless of the fact that the permits for the master plan had already been approved — something that would have resulted in a significant saving of time.
At some point, the reasons behind this decision will have to be explained to the people of Larnaca, seriously and with supporting evidence, so that they can be properly recorded in the city’s history. Statements along the lines of “we didn’t want him” or “we didn’t trust him” are hardly serious when we are talking about a multi-billion-euro project, especially when we all know that major projects such as Larnaca’s port-marina involve bank guarantees, signed contracts and a whole range of safeguards.
Why didn’t you return the project to the investor who wanted it back and said he had the money and could start construction immediately?
Sadly, while other cities seem to be able to attract investors, we — a city with an international airport and close to Nicosia, Limassol and the free areas of Famagusta — were somehow persuaded that no investor could be found for Larnaca, other than the state itself.
And when this message comes from people whose positions are supposed to be about supporting and serving the city’s business community… well, it makes you wonder.
Why didn’t you look for other investors when you decided that you did not want the Kition investor, who was asking to take the project back?
Sadly, the runaround began as early as January 2025, when the Larnaca Development Committee went to the Presidential Palace and the proposed solution suddenly acquired a new name: TAIPED. From that point onwards, the mockery became increasingly obvious — at least to those who were willing to see it clearly.
Why didn’t the Mayor, the MPs and the political parties take to the streets already, when the stalling and empty promises have been so obvious for the past two years?
Sadly, the city goes to sleep and wakes up to glossy announcements and promises, while the runaround over the port-marina project is plain to see. Anyone pretending not to see it is either failing to grasp what is happening, pursuing vested interests, or viewing the situation through political or other blinkers.
What a shame!
This city -and, above all, the generations to come – deserved better.
