Βγαίνει στο σφυρί η πολυτελής έπαυλη του πολιτογραφηθέντα Μαλαισιανού Τζο Λο, ο οποίος είχε πολιτογραφηθεί Κύπριος υπό αξιοπερίεργες συνθήκες.
Η Μονάδα Καταπολέμησης Αδικημάτων Συγκάλυψης (ΜΟΚΑΣ) εξασφάλισε διάταγμα δήμευσης της εν λόγω περιουσίας.
Το σχετικό αίτημα της Νομικής Υπηρεσίας και της ΜΟΚΑΣ τέθηκε ενώπιον του Επαρχιακού Δικαστηρίου Λευκωσίας. Το εν λόγω δικαστικό σώμα ενέκρινε το σχετικό αίτημα, ενώ το διάταγμα συντάχθηκε χθες. Το αξιοσημείωτο είναι ότι πρώτη φορά εκδίδεται ένα τέτοιας μορφής διάταγμα για ρευστοποίηση περιουσίας προσώπου, χωρίς αυτό να έχει ποινική καταδίκη.
Η επίδικη περιουσία αφορά στην κατοικία του Τζο Λο στην Αγία Νάπα και συγκεκριμένα μια υπερπολυτελή παραθαλάσσια έπαυλη στο Κάβο Γκρέκο, η οποία αγοράστηκε έναντι περίπου 5 εκατομμυρίων ευρώ.
Για την ώρα δεν είναι ξεκάθαρο κατά πόσον τα χρήματα που θα προκύψουν από τη ρευστοποίηση του ακινήτου θα διατεθούν στη Μαλαισία. Θυμίζουμε ότι η ασιατική χώρα έχει κινήσει διεθνώς διαδικασίες, αφού θεωρεί τον Λο υπαίτιο για μεγάλης κλίμακας υπεξαίρεση από το δημόσιο.
Τον Μάιο του 2023 το Υπουργικό Συμβούλιο αποφάσισε την αποστέρηση της υπηκοότητας του Τζο Λο λόγω του γεγονότος ότι καταζητείτο για το γνωστό σκάνδαλο 1MDB (1Malaysia Development Berhad).

Joe Low’s property in Cape Greco goes under the hammer
The luxury villa of naturalised Malaysian Joe Low, who was granted Cypriot citizenship under questionable circumstances, is being put up for sale.
The Unit for Combating Money Laundering (MOKAS) has secured a confiscation order for the property in question.
The relevant application by the Legal Service and MOKAS was submitted before the Nicosia District Court. The court approved the request, and the order was issued yesterday. Notably, this is the first time that such an order has been issued for the liquidation of a person’s property without a criminal conviction.
The property in question concerns Joe Low’s residence in Ayia Napa, specifically an ultra-luxury seaside villa in Cape Greco, which was purchased for approximately €5 million.
It is currently unclear whether the proceeds from the liquidation of the property will be allocated to Malaysia. It is worth recalling that the Asian country has initiated international proceedings, as it considers Low responsible for large-scale embezzlement of public funds.
In May 2023, the Council of Ministers decided to revoke Joe Low’s citizenship due to the fact that he is wanted in connection with the well-known 1MDB (1Malaysia Development Berhad) scandal.
