Ο ΕΟΑ Λάρνακας πιστοποιήθηκε με το διεθνές πρότυπο EMAS, ενισχύοντας τη δέσμευσή του για βιώσιμη ανάπτυξη
Ο Επαρχιακός Οργανισμός Αυτοδιοίκησης Λάρνακας (ΕΟΑΛ) ολοκλήρωσε με επιτυχία τη διαδικασία επαλήθευσης και έλαβε την επίσημη πιστοποίηση σύμφωνα με το Σύστημα Οικολογικής Διαχείρισης και Ελέγχου (EMAS), βάσει του Κανονισμού (ΕΚ) αριθ. 1221/2009 του Ευρωπαϊκού Κοινοβουλίου και του Συμβουλίου.
Η πιστοποίηση αυτή κατατάσσει τον ΕΟΑ Λάρνακας μεταξύ των πρωτοπόρων οργανισμών τοπικής αυτοδιοίκησης στην Κύπρο που εφαρμόζουν το Σύστημα EMAS, επιβεβαιώνοντας τη διαχρονική του δέσμευση στην περιβαλλοντική υπευθυνότητα και τη βιώσιμη ανάπτυξη.
Η εφαρμογή του EMAS αποτελεί φυσική συνέχεια της περιβαλλοντικής φιλοσοφίας που κληρονόμησε ο Οργανισμός από τα πρώην Συμβούλια Υδατοπρομήθειας και Αποχετεύσεων Λάρνακας και την οποία διατηρεί και ενισχύει από την πρώτη ημέρα λειτουργίας του.
Το EMAS (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme) αποτελεί επίσημο εθελοντικό σύστημα περιβαλλοντικής διαχείρισης της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης, το οποίο απευθύνεται σε οργανισμούς που επιδιώκουν να αξιολογούν, να διαχειρίζονται και να βελτιώνουν συστηματικά τις περιβαλλοντικές τους επιδόσεις. Μέσα από ένα ολοκληρωμένο πλαίσιο περιβαλλοντικής διαχείρισης, το EMAS συμβάλλει στη μείωση των περιβαλλοντικών επιπτώσεων, στην αποτελεσματικότερη αξιοποίηση των φυσικών πόρων και στη συμμόρφωση με την περιβαλλοντική νομοθεσία. Παράλληλα, ενισχύει τη λογοδοσία και τη διαφάνεια, μέσω της δημοσιοποίησης επαληθευμένων περιβαλλοντικών πληροφοριών, συμβάλλοντας στην ενίσχυση της εμπιστοσύνης των πολιτών και των ενδιαφερόμενων μερών.
Η απόκτηση της πιστοποίησης αποτελεί ένα ακόμη σημαντικό βήμα στην υλοποίηση της στρατηγικής του ΕΟΑ Λάρνακας για τη συνεχή βελτίωση των περιβαλλοντικών του επιδόσεων, τη μείωση του περιβαλλοντικού του αποτυπώματος και την ορθολογική διαχείριση των φυσικών πόρων. Παράλληλα, επιβεβαιώνει τη δέσμευση του Οργανισμού να λειτουργεί με υπευθυνότητα, διαφάνεια και σεβασμό προς το περιβάλλον, τους πολίτες, τους εργαζομένους, τους συνεργάτες του και την τοπική κοινωνία.
Η εφαρμογή του Συστήματος EMAS ενισχύει τη διαρκή προσπάθεια του ΕΟΑ Λάρνακας για υιοθέτηση βέλτιστων περιβαλλοντικών πρακτικών και καλλιέργεια περιβαλλοντικής κουλτούρας σε όλα τα επίπεδα λειτουργίας του, συμβάλλοντας ουσιαστικά στη βιώσιμη ανάπτυξη της επαρχίας Λάρνακας.
Ο ΕΟΑ Λάρνακας θα συνεχίσει να επενδύει σε πρωτοβουλίες που μειώνουν το περιβαλλοντικό του αποτύπωμα, προάγουν την ορθολογική χρήση των φυσικών πόρων και ενισχύουν τη μετάβαση σε ένα πιο βιώσιμο και ανθεκτικό μοντέλο λειτουργίας, συμβάλλοντας ενεργά στην επίτευξη των εθνικών και ευρωπαϊκών στόχων για την προστασία του περιβάλλοντος.

Larnaca District Local Government Organisation achieves EMAS certification, strengthening its commitment to sustainable development
The Larnaca District Local Government Organisation (EOAL) has successfully completed the verification process and has been officially certified in accordance with the Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS), pursuant to Regulation (EC) No. 1221/2009 of the European Parliament and of the Council.
This certification places the Larnaca District Local Government Organisation among the pioneering local government organisations in Cyprus implementing the EMAS Scheme, confirming its long-standing commitment to environmental responsibility and sustainable development.
The implementation of EMAS represents a natural continuation of the environmental philosophy inherited by the Organisation from the former Larnaca Water Supply and Sewerage Boards, which it has maintained and further strengthened since the first day of its operation.
EMAS (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme) is the official voluntary environmental management system of the European Union, designed for organisations seeking to assess, manage and systematically improve their environmental performance. Through a comprehensive environmental management framework, EMAS contributes to reducing environmental impacts, improving the efficient use of natural resources and ensuring compliance with environmental legislation. At the same time, it enhances accountability and transparency through the publication of verified environmental information, helping to strengthen the trust of citizens and stakeholders.
The achievement of this certification constitutes another important milestone in the implementation of the Larnaca District Local Government Organisation’s strategy for the continuous improvement of its environmental performance, the reduction of its environmental footprint and the sustainable management of natural resources. At the same time, it reaffirms the Organisation’s commitment to operating with responsibility, transparency and respect towards the environment, citizens, employees, partners and the local community.
The implementation of the EMAS Scheme strengthens the Organisation’s ongoing efforts to adopt best environmental practices and foster an environmental culture across all levels of its operations, making a meaningful contribution to the sustainable development of the Larnaca district.
The Larnaca District Local Government Organisation will continue to invest in initiatives that reduce its environmental footprint, promote the rational use of natural resources and support the transition towards a more sustainable and resilient operating model, actively contributing to the achievement of national and European environmental protection objectives.
