Ο επικεφαλής του ΟΗΕ υπογράμμισε χθες ότι το επικίνδυνο περιφερειακό σκηνικό καθιστά τη λύση πιο επιτακτική από ποτέ, ξεκαθαρίζοντας παράλληλα πως «τα Ηνωμένα Έθνη δεν μπορούν να επιβάλουν την ειρήνη, μόνο οι Κύπριοι μπορούν να την οικοδομήσουν».
Σημαντική για τα επόμενα βήματα της διαδικασίας προς επίλυση του Κυπριακού προβλήματος θεωρείται η τριμερής συνάντηση που πραγματοποιείται σήμερα, Τετάρτη 29 Ιουλίου 2026, στις 10.00 το πρωί, στην προστατευόμενη από τα Ηνωμένα Έθνη περιοχή του παλαιού αεροδρομίου Λευκωσίας, μεταξύ του Γενικού Γραμματέα του ΟΗΕ Αντόνιο Γκουτέρες, του Προέδρου της Δημοκρατίας Νίκου Χριστοδουλίδη και του Τουρκοκύπριου ηγέτη Τουφάν Έρχιουρμαν. Αμέσως μετά την ολοκλήρωσή της, γύρω στις 11.30 το πρωί, ο κ. Γκουτέρες αναμένεται να παραχωρήσει διάσκεψη Τύπου με ανακοινώσεις για το μέλλον των διαπραγματεύσεων.
Η σημερινή συνάντηση διαδέχεται τις χθεσινές χωριστές επαφές και το βραδινό δείπνο εργασίας. Ο επικεφαλής του ΟΗΕ υπογράμμισε ότι το επικίνδυνο περιφερειακό σκηνικό καθιστά τη λύση πιο επιτακτική από ποτέ, ξεκαθαρίζοντας παράλληλα πως «τα Ηνωμένα Έθνη δεν μπορούν να επιβάλουν την ειρήνη, μόνο οι Κύπριοι μπορούν να την οικοδομήσουν». Απο την πλευρά του, ο Πρόεδρος Χριστοδουλίδης εξέφρασε την ικανοποίησή του για την πολιτική δέσμευση του ΓΓ. Όπως ανέφερε, στη συζήτηση τέθηκαν επί τάπητος η ουσία του Κυπριακού, η μεθοδολογία, οι συγκλίσεις, η διευρυμένη διάσκεψη και τα Μέτρα Οικοδόμησης Εμπιστοσύνης, εκφράζοντας την ελπίδα ότι η συνέχεια των επαφών σήμερα θα οδηγήσει σε συγκεκριμένες ανακοινώσεις. Από πλευράς της Τ/κ κοινότητας, ο κ. Έρχιουρμαν σημείωσε την ανάγκη για μια νέα και ρεαλιστική μεθοδολογία, με την ατζέντα να καλύπτει τόσο την ουσία του Κυπριακού όσο και τα Μέτρα Οικοδόμησης Εμπιστοσύνης.

Cyprus Issue: Doors Closed as the Trilateral Meeting Between Guterres, Christodoulides and Erhürman Begins – UN Secretary-General’s Announcements Expected
The head of the United Nations stressed yesterday that the dangerous regional environment makes a settlement more urgent than ever, while making it clear that “the United Nations cannot impose peace; only Cypriots can build it.”
The trilateral meeting taking place today, Wednesday, 29 July 2026, at 10:00 a.m. in the United Nations Protected Area at the old Nicosia airport, between UN Secretary-General António Guterres, President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulides, and Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhürman, is considered significant for the next steps in the process towards resolving the Cyprus problem. Immediately after its conclusion, at around 11:30 a.m., Mr Guterres is expected to hold a press conference and make announcements regarding the future of the negotiations.
Today’s meeting follows yesterday’s separate talks and the working dinner held in the evening. The UN chief emphasised that the dangerous regional situation makes a solution more urgent than ever, while clarifying that “the United Nations cannot impose peace; only Cypriots can build it.” For his part, President Christodoulides expressed his satisfaction with the Secretary-General’s political commitment. As he stated, the discussion covered the substance of the Cyprus issue, methodology, areas of convergence, the expanded conference, and Confidence-Building Measures, expressing hope that today’s continuation of the talks will lead to concrete announcements. From the Turkish Cypriot side, Mr Erhürman stressed the need for a new and realistic methodology, with the agenda covering both the substance of the Cyprus issue and Confidence-Building Measures.
