«Με την επίσκεψη μου δείχνω τη αλληλεγγύη στο λαό της Κύπρου αλλά και τη δέσμευση μου να διασφαλίσουμε ότι θα μπορέσουμε να έχουμε επιτέλους μια λύση στο Κυπριακό» ανέφερε μεταξύ άλλων στις δηλώσεις του ο γενικός γραμματέας του ΟΗΕ Αντόνιο Γκουτέρες που επισκέπτεται το νησί.
«Εξαρτάται προφανώς από τους ίδιους τους Κύπριους και επίσης τις εγγυήτριες δυνάμεις που έχουν να παίξουν ρόλο. Θα κάνω ό,τι μπορώ να στηρίξω τους Ελληνοκύπριους και Τουρκοκυπρίους σε αυτή την πολύ σημαντική στιγμή» πρόσθεσε ο κ. Γκουτέρες.
Αυτή την ώρα είναι σε εξέλιξη συνάντηση του κ. Γκουτέρες με τον Κύρπιο προέδρο Χριστοδουλίδη.
Προηγήθηκαν διευρυμένες επαφές στις οποίες εκτός από τους κυρίους Γκουτέρες και Χριστοδουλίδη συμμετείχαν από ελληνοκυπριακής πλευράς, ο υπουργός Εξωτερικών Κωνσταντίνος Κόμπος, ο διαπραγματευτής Μενέλαος Μενελάου, ο κυβερνητικός εκπρόσωπος Κωνσταντίνος Λετυμπιώτης, ο διευθυντής του Διπλωματικού Γραφείου του ΠτΔ Δώρος Βενέζης και η υφυπουργός για Ευρωπαϊκά Θέματα Μαριλένα Ραουνά. Παρούσα ήταν επίσης η Μόνιμη Αντιπρόσωπος (πρέσβυς) της Κύπρου στον Οργανισμό Ηνωμένων Εθνών (ΟΗΕ) στη Νέα Υόρκη, Μαρία Μιχαήλ.

Guterres in Nicosia: We must ensure that we can finally achieve a solution to the Cyprus issue
“Through my visit, I am demonstrating my solidarity with the people of Cyprus, as well as my commitment to ensuring that we can finally achieve a solution to the Cyprus issue,” said, among other things, UN Secretary-General António Guterres during his statements while visiting the island.
“It obviously depends on the Cypriots themselves, as well as the guarantor powers, which have a role to play. I will do everything I can to support both Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots at this very important moment,” Mr Guterres added.
A meeting between Mr Guterres and Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides is currently underway.
It was preceded by expanded discussions in which, in addition to Mr Guterres and Mr Christodoulides, participants from the Greek Cypriot side included Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos, negotiator Menelaos Menelaou, Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis, Director of the Diplomatic Office of the President Doros Venezis, and Deputy Minister for European Affairs Marilena Raouna. Also present was Cyprus’s Permanent Representative (Ambassador) to the United Nations (UN) in New York, Maria Michael.
