Οι τίτλοι των ειδήσεων ηρωοποιούν ακόμη έναν δολοφόνο. «Πολύ καλό παιδί», «οικογενειάρχης», «άνθρωπος της εκκλησίας»… Με αυτόν τον τρόπο στοχοποιούν εμμέσως το πραγματικό θύμα και αποδεικνύουν ότι το πατριαρχικό σύστημα είναι, για ακόμη μία φορά, ο ηθικός αυτουργός πίσω από τη δολοφονία της Ελένης, της Κυριακής, της Αντιγόνης και της κάθε μάνας, αδελφής, κόρης και γυναίκας.
Αυτό αποτελεί ξεκάθαρη θυματοποίηση του θύματος (victim blaming). Η ευθύνη μετακινείται από τον άνθρωπο που αφαίρεσε μια ζωή στη συμπεριφορά της γυναίκας που έχασε τη ζωή της.
Καμία ποινή δεν προβλέπεται για τη δημοσιογραφία που δικαιολογεί τον γυναικοκτόνο. Μια δημοσιογραφία που δίνει την ευκαιρία στο κάθε πατριαρχικό και παρανοϊκό άνθρωπο να σχολιάζει αισχρά από κάτω: «Κάτι του έκανε», «τον απάτησε»…
Υπάρχει τεράστια ανάγκη για έναν αυστηρό κώδικα δεοντολογίας. Ο τρόπος που παρουσιάζεται ένα έγκλημα δεν είναι απλά «πληροφορία»· διαμορφώνει κοινωνική συνείδηση.
Κι όμως, η βία κατά των γυναικών στον ελληνικό χώρο ανακυκλώνεται εβδομαδιαίως, παρουσιάζοντας ξανά και ξανά την «ωραία πατριαρχική εικόνα», όπου τα στερεότυπα καλά κρατούν: το καλό και θρησκευόμενο παιδί που κανένας δεν πίστευε ότι θα σκότωνε.
Και η γυναίκα; Η γυναίκα που τον προστάτευε για να μη χάσει τη δουλειά του; Που τον στήριζε για να πηγαίνει σε ψυχολόγο; Η γυναίκα που στεκόταν βράχος δίπλα στα παιδιά της, ενώ ο δολοφόνος τη θεωρούσε κτήμα του;
Ακόμη ένα θύμα μιας βίας ξεκάθαρα έμφυλης, που δολοφονήθηκε μόνο και μόνο επειδή θέλησε να φύγει. Κανένας άνθρωπος δεν είναι κτήμα κανενός.
Η αναγνώριση του όρου «γυναικοκτονία» (νομικά και κοινωνικά) δεν είναι μια απλή γλωσσική προτίμηση· είναι το πρώτο βήμα για να παραδεχτούμε το κίνητρο του εγκλήματος: ότι αυτές οι γυναίκες δολοφονήθηκαν επειδή ήταν γυναίκες που αρνήθηκαν να υποταχθούν.
Το ανθρώπινο γένος έχει γίνει τόσο επικίνδυνα αιμοβόρο, που είναι πλέον καιρός το νομοθετικό σύστημα μιας χώρας, καθώς και οι ένστολοι που το υπηρετούν, να εφαρμόσουν επιτέλους αυτό για το οποίο πληρώνονται: την ασφάλεια κάθε πολίτη και όχι την κάλυψη των δικών τους πατριαρχικών καταλοίπων.
Η προστασία των θυμάτων πριν φτάσουμε στο μοιραίο παραμένει το μεγάλο ζητούμενο. Η έλλειψη σωστής εκπαίδευσης των αρχών στη διαχείριση της ενδοοικογενειακής βίας κοστίζει ζωές.

The “Whitewashing” of the Femicide Perpetrator

News headlines continue to glorify yet another killer. “A very good man,” “a devoted family man,” “a man of faith”… In doing so, they indirectly target the real victim and demonstrate that the patriarchal system is, once again, the moral accomplice behind the murders of Eleni, Kyriaki, Antigoni, and every mother, sister, daughter, and woman.
This is a clear case of victim blaming. Responsibility is shifted away from the person who took a life and onto the behavior of the woman who lost hers.
There is no penalty for journalism that justifies a femicide perpetrator. A form of journalism that gives every patriarchal and disturbed individual the opportunity to leave vile comments underneath: “She must have done something to him,” “She cheated on him”…
There is an urgent need for a strict code of ethics. The way a crime is presented is not merely “information”; it shapes social consciousness.
And yet, violence against women in the Greek-speaking world is recycled week after week, repeatedly presenting the same “ideal patriarchal image,” where stereotypes remain firmly intact: the good, religious man whom no one ever believed capable of killing.
And what about the woman? The woman who protected him so he would not lose his job? Who supported him so he could attend therapy? The woman who stood like a rock beside her children while the killer viewed her as his property?
Another victim of clearly gender-based violence, murdered simply because she wanted to leave. No human being is the property of another.
Recognizing the term femicide—both legally and socially—is not merely a matter of linguistic preference; it is the first step toward acknowledging the motive behind the crime: that these women were murdered because they were women who refused to submit.
Humanity has become so dangerously bloodthirsty that it is high time for a country’s legislative system, as well as the uniformed officers who serve it, to finally do what they are paid to do: ensure the safety of every citizen, rather than protect the remnants of their own patriarchal biases.
Protecting victims before tragedy strikes remains the greatest challenge. The lack of proper training for authorities in handling domestic violence continues to cost lives.
Can you bear the thought that the next victim could be your daughter? Your sister? Your mother?
