Ένα θέμα που απασχόλησε αρκετούς δημότες το τελευταίο διάστημα ήταν με ποια λογική οι αρμόδιοι του Δήμου Λάρνακας αποφάσισαν να τοποθετήσουν μπανανιές και διάφορα καλλωπιστικά φυτά στο Παττίχειο Δασικό Πάρκο. Πρόκειται για ένα διαχρονικό ζήτημα που αφορά τη διαχείριση του αστικού και φυσικού πρασίνου της πόλης μας. Επιλέγονται άραγε τα κατάλληλα δέντρα και φυτά για τους δημόσιους χώρους; Τοποθετούνται είδη που είναι συμβατά με το περιβάλλον στο οποίο φυτεύονται, που δεν απαιτούν υπερβολικές ποσότητες νερού και δεν χρειάζονται συχνές αντικαταστάσεις;
Το ίδιο ερώτημα τίθεται και για τα δέντρα που φυτεύονται σε δρόμους και πεζοδρόμια. Επιλέγονται τα κατάλληλα είδη με γνώμονα τη βιωσιμότητα, το κόστος συντήρησης και τις ανάγκες της πόλης; Και αν όχι, γιατί;
Σύμφωνα με ανάρτηση της συμπολίτισσάς μας Χριστίνας Αγαπίου, αλλά και μετά τη δημόσια ανάδειξη του θέματος από το SkalaTimes μέσω των μέσων κοινωνικής δικτύωσης, φαίνεται ότι υπήρξε αλλαγή σχεδιασμού όσον αφορά τις μπανανιές και τα καλλωπιστικά φυτά που είχαν τοποθετηθεί στο Παττίχειο Πάρκο.
Στην ανάρτησή της η κ. Αγαπίου αναφέρει: «Τα καλλωπιστικά φεύγουν από το Δάσος Παττίχειου. Μετά από συνομιλίες με το Τμήμα Δασών, τον γεωπόνο του Δημαρχείου και τον Δήμαρχο, το φυτό “γιούκα”, που είναι τοξικό για τα ζώα του δάσους, οι μπανανιές, οι καλλωπιστικές φοινικιές και άλλα καλλωπιστικά φυτά που δεν συνάδουν με τον χαρακτήρα του Δασικού Πάρκου Παττίχειου Λάρνακας, θα απομακρυνθούν και στη θέση τους θα φυτευτούν δασικά δέντρα. Τα εν λόγω καλλωπιστικά φυτά θα μεταφυτευθούν σε άλλη τοποθεσία της πόλης».
Η κ. Αγαπίου θέτει παράλληλα και ένα ακόμη ζήτημα, αναφέροντας: «Ευχής έργο θα ήταν να “ξεριζωθεί” και το πάρκινγκ που κατασκευάστηκε μέσα στο δάσος Natura…».
Κλείνοντας την ανάρτησή της, εκφράζει τις ευχαριστίες της προς το Τμήμα Δασών Λάρνακας και τον γεωπόνο του Δήμου Λάρνακας για τη συνεργασία και τη βοήθειά τους, σημειώνοντας χαρακτηριστικά: «Όλοι μαζί μπορούμε να σώσουμε το δάσος Natura».
Από την πλευρά μας, θα θέλαμε να υπάρξει πλήρης διαφάνεια και δημόσια ενημέρωση από τον Δήμο Λάρνακας σχετικά με το πού θα μεταφυτευθούν όλα τα φυτά που απομακρύνονται από το Παττίχειο Πάρκο.
Αναμένουμε τις σχετικές διευκρινίσεις.
Ornamental Plants Planted in Patticheio Park… by Mistake? Now Being Uprooted for Replanting

A matter that has concerned several residents in recent weeks is the rationale behind the decision of the Larnaca Municipality authorities to plant banana trees and various ornamental plants in the Patticheio Forest Park.
This is part of a long-standing issue regarding the management of urban and natural greenery in our city. Are the appropriate trees and plants chosen for public spaces? Are species being planted that are compatible with the environment in which they are placed, that do not require excessive amounts of water, and that do not need frequent replacement?
The same question applies to trees planted along roads and pavements. Are the right species selected based on sustainability, maintenance costs, and the needs of the city? And if not, why?
According to a post by our fellow citizen Christina Agapiou, and following SkalaTimes’ public highlighting of the issue on social media, it appears that there has been a change in planning regarding the banana trees and ornamental plants that had been placed in Patticheio Park.
In her post, Ms. Agapiou states:
“Ornamental plants are being removed from the Patticheio Forest. After consultations with the Forestry Department, the Municipal horticulturist, and the Mayor, the yucca plant—which is toxic to forest animals—as well as the banana trees, ornamental palms, and other decorative plants that do not align with the character of the Patticheio Forest Park of Larnaca, will be removed and replaced with forest trees. The ornamental plants in question will be transplanted to another location in the city.”
Ms. Agapiou also raises another issue, noting:
“It would be desirable for the parking area that was built inside the Natura forest to also be ‘uprooted’…”
In closing her post, she expresses her thanks to the Larnaca Forestry Department and the municipal horticulturist for their cooperation and assistance, stating:
“Together we can save the Natura forest.”
From our side, we call for full transparency and public information from the Larnaca Municipality regarding where all the plants removed from Patticheio Park will be transplanted.
We await the relevant clarifications.
