Συγκλόνισε η μάνα του μικρού Μάριου: «Θα το πάρω μέχρι τέλους» – Ζητά δικαιοσύνη για το εγκεφαλικά νεκρό παιδί της
Εκδήλωση διαμαρτυρίας πραγματοποιήθηκε το πρωί της Δευτέρας έξω από το Γενικό Νοσοκομείο Λεμεσού για την υπόθεση του 4χρονου Μάριου, ο οποίος κατέληξε εγκεφαλικά νεκρός μετά από διάγνωση ιογενούς μηνιγγίτιδας. Η μητέρα του παιδιού καταγγέλλει παραλείψεις στη διαχείριση του περιστατικού πριν από τη διάγνωση και ζητά την απόδοση ευθυνών, ενώ η υπόθεση βρίσκεται υπό διερεύνηση από τον ΟΚΥπΥ.
Δεκάδες πολίτες συγκεντρώθηκαν έξω από το Γενικό Νοσοκομείο Λεμεσού, με τη μητέρα του 4χρονου να απευθύνει έκκληση για πλήρη διερεύνηση όσων προηγήθηκαν της διάγνωσης ιογενούς μηνιγγίτιδας.
Η ίδια υποστηρίζει ότι υπήρξαν παραλείψεις κατά τη διαχείριση του περιστατικού και δηλώνει αποφασισμένη να επιμείνει μέχρι να διαπιστωθεί εάν προκύπτουν ευθύνες.
Κατά τη διάρκεια της διαμαρτυρίας ανέφερε ότι «θα το πάρει μέχρι τέλους», ζητώντας να αποδοθούν ευθύνες όπου αυτές προκύπτουν και λέγοντας χαρακτηριστικά «να μπει φυλακή με το δολοφόνους όποιος πρέπει να μπει».
«Θα γινόμουν εγώ τα μάτια του»
Αναφερόμενη στις τελευταίες ημέρες πριν από την κατάληξη του παιδιού, η μητέρα του κατήγγειλε ότι στις 13 του περασμένου μήνα είχε ενημερωθεί πως όλα θα πήγαιναν καλά, ενώ την επόμενη ημέρα, όπως είπε, της «ανακοίνωσαν ότι θα μείνει τυφλό, μπροστά στο μωρό».
Το παιδί, σύμφωνα με όσα έχουν γίνει γνωστά, κατέληξε στη συνέχεια εγκεφαλικά νεκρό.
Σε έντονη συναισθηματική φόρτιση, η μητέρα ανέφερε: «Θα το δεχόμουν να έμενε τυφλό γιατί θα το είχα μαζί μου. Θα γινόμουν εγώ τα μάτια του. Αλλά το μωρό μου δεν έμεινε τυφλό, έμεινε εγκεφαλικά νεκρό».
Παράλληλα, κάλεσε τις αρμόδιες αρχές να προχωρήσουν στην απόδοση δικαιοσύνης.
«Το μόνο που έχει να κάνει αυτό το κράτος, είναι να αποδώσει δικαιοσύνη και τούτη τη φορά με την ανθρωπιά και με το χέρι στην καρδιά, για μια ψυχή που έφυγε και άλλες τόσες που μπορεί να φύγουν ή έφυγαν, αλλά είχαν τη δύναμη να βγουν να μιλήσουν», πρόσθεσε η ίδια.
Καταλήγοντας υπογράμμισε ότι «θα το πάρει μέχρι τέλους», ζητώντας να αποδοθούν οι ευθύνες που ενδεχομένως προκύπτουν από τη διερεύνηση της υπόθεσης.
Σε εξέλιξη η διερεύνηση από τον ΟΚΥπΥ
Ο Οργανισμός Κρατικών Υπηρεσιών Υγείας είχε ανακοινώσει στα τέλη Ιουλίου ότι προχώρησε σε διερεύνηση των καταγγελιών, μετά τη δημοσιοποίηση της υπόθεσης και των αναφορών της μητέρας.
Ο ΟΚΥπΥ είχε γνωστοποιήσει ότι έλαβε υπόψη τα σχετικά δημοσιεύματα και ότι άρχισε τη διερεύνηση της υπόθεσης με στόχο να διαπιστωθούν τα πραγματικά γεγονότα.
«Ο Οργανισμός εκφράζει τη συμπάθειά του προς την οικογένεια του παιδιού και διαβεβαιώνει ότι κάθε σχετική αναφορά αντιμετωπίζεται με τη δέουσα σοβαρότητα, υπευθυνότητα και αντικειμενικότητα, στο πλαίσιο των προβλεπόμενων διαδικασιών», αναφέρεται στην ανακοίνωση.
Μέχρι στιγμής δεν έχει γνωστοποιηθεί νεότερη εξέλιξη ως προς το αποτέλεσμα της διερεύνησης.
Η διαδικασία αναμένεται να καταγράψει το ιστορικό διαχείρισης του περιστατικού και να εξετάσει κατά πόσο τηρήθηκαν τα προβλεπόμενα ιατρικά πρωτόκολλα και οι διαδικασίες κατά την αντιμετώπισή του.

A protest was held on Monday morning outside Limassol General Hospital over the case of four-year-old Mario, who was left brain-dead following a diagnosis of viral meningitis. The child’s mother alleges that there were failures in the handling of the case prior to the diagnosis and is calling for those responsible to be held accountable, while the case is currently being investigated by the State Health Services Organisation (OKYPY).
Dozens of citizens gathered outside Limassol General Hospital, with the mother of the four-year-old appealing for a full investigation into everything that preceded the diagnosis of viral meningitis.
She maintains that there were shortcomings in the handling of the case and says she is determined to persist until it is established whether any responsibility lies with those involved.
During the protest, she said that “I will see this through to the end”, calling for accountability wherever responsibility is found and saying characteristically, “whoever needs to go to prison, let them go to prison as murderers.”

Referring to the final days before her child’s condition deteriorated, the mother alleged that on the 13th of last month she had been told that everything would be fine, while the following day, she said, she was “told that he would remain blind, in front of the baby.”
According to information that has emerged, the child subsequently became brain-dead.
In a state of intense emotional distress, the mother said: “I would have accepted him remaining blind because I would have had him with me. I would have become his eyes. But my baby did not remain blind; he became brain-dead.”
At the same time, she called on the relevant authorities to ensure that justice is served.
“The only thing this state has to do is deliver justice, and this time with humanity and with its hand on its heart, for a soul that has left us and for all the other souls that may leave us or have left us, but who had the strength to come forward and speak,” she added.
In conclusion, she stressed that “I will see this through to the end”, calling for accountability for any responsibility that may emerge from the investigation into the case.
OKYPY investigation ongoing
The State Health Services Organisation (OKYPY) announced at the end of July that it had launched an investigation into the allegations, following the publication of reports about the case and statements made by the child’s mother.
OKYPY said it had taken the relevant reports into consideration and had begun investigating the case in order to establish the facts.
“The Organisation expresses its sympathy to the child’s family and assures that every relevant report is being treated with the appropriate seriousness, responsibility and objectivity, within the framework of the procedures in place,” the statement said.
So far, no further developments have been announced regarding the outcome of the investigation.
The process is expected to document the history of the case’s management and examine whether the prescribed medical protocols and procedures were followed in dealing with it.
