Δεν είναι η πρώτη φορά, και δυστυχώς μάλλον ούτε η τελευταία, που το ΑΚΕΛ επιχειρεί να προκαταλάβει και να αμφισβητήσει ένα πόρισμα και να πλήξει την αξιοπιστία ανεξάρτητου ανακριτή. Η εκ των προτέρων αποδόμηση μιας θεσμικής διαδικασίας αποτελεί επικίνδυνο πολιτικό εγχείρημα και εξυπηρετεί μόνο επικοινωνιακές σκοπιμότητες.
Ο Ανδρέας Πασχαλίδης ήταν ήδη Πρόεδρος της ΑΑΔΙΠΑ όταν επιλέγηκε ως ανεξάρτητος ποινικός ανακριτής, και μάλιστα όχι από το Υπουργικό Συμβούλιο. Η προσπάθεια, συνεπώς, να παρουσιαστεί σήμερα η ανανέωση της θητείας του ως δήθεν συναλλαγή στερείται σοβαρότητας και είναι προφανώς ετεροχρονισμένη και ανεδαφική.
Οι δύο ιδιότητες είναι θεσμικά διακριτές και η ανανέωση της θητείας του στην ΑΑΔΙΠΑ ούτε δημιουργεί σύγκρουση συμφέροντος ούτε επηρεάζει την ανεξαρτησία της έρευνας.
Αναμένουμε με απόλυτο σεβασμό την ολοκλήρωση κάθε πορίσματος. Δεν γνωρίζουμε το αποτέλεσμά του, δεν θα το προκαταλάβουμε και δεν θα το αμφισβητήσουμε εκ των προτέρων. Αυτή είναι η υπεύθυνη θεσμική στάση. Το ΑΚΕΛ, αντιθέτως, επιβεβαιώνει τον δικό του θλιβερό κανόνα θεσμικής απαξίωσης.
Στον ίδιο δρόμο επέλεξε, δυστυχώς, να κινηθεί και το ΑΛΜΑ. Η πλήρης ταύτισή τους, όχι σε ιδεολογική βάση αλλά στο μένος, στην εμμονή και στην απαξίωση διαδικασιών, θεσμών και προσώπων, είναι αποκαλυπτική. Ο καταγγελτικός λόγος για χάριν εντυπώσεων καθιστά πλέον προφανές ποιους στοχεύει και ποιες πολιτικές σκοπιμότητες υπηρετεί.
Είναι θλιβερή η συνέπεια τους στον μηδενισμό και στην απαξίωση θεσμών και πορισμάτων. Προφανώς έχουν επιλέξει να επενδύσουν σε μια ισοπεδωτική και ατεκμηρίωτη προεκλογική προπαγάνδα, που παραπέμπει σε πολιτικά παραμύθια άλλων εποχών.
Εμείς, σε αντίθεση με πολλές γνωστές περιπτώσεις του παρελθόντος που αφορούσαν το ΑΚΕΛ, δηλώνουμε και αποδεικνύουμε πλήρη σεβασμό στις διαδικασίες, στα πορίσματα, στους θεσμούς και στην ανεξαρτησία των εξουσιών.
Written Statement by Government Spokesperson Mr. Konstantinos Letymbiotis in Response to AKEL and ALMA
This is not the first time—and unfortunately, it is unlikely to be the last—that AKEL has sought to prejudge and discredit the findings of an investigation while undermining the credibility of an independent investigator. Attempting to dismantle an institutional process before it has even been completed is a dangerous political undertaking that serves only communication and political objectives.
Andreas Paschalides was already serving as President of the Cyprus Agency of Quality Assurance and Accreditation in Higher Education (CYQAA) when he was appointed as an independent criminal investigator, and notably, he was not appointed by the Council of Ministers. Consequently, the attempt to portray the recent renewal of his term as some form of political trade-off lacks seriousness and is clearly both belated and unfounded.
The two roles are institutionally distinct, and the renewal of his term at CYQAA neither creates a conflict of interest nor affects the independence of the investigation.
We await the completion of every investigative report with full respect. We do not know its conclusions, we will not prejudge them, and we will not challenge them in advance. That is the responsible institutional stance. AKEL, by contrast, once again confirms its regrettable pattern of undermining institutions.
Unfortunately, ALMA has chosen to follow the same path. Their complete alignment—not on the basis of ideology, but in their hostility, obsession, and contempt for procedures, institutions, and individuals—is revealing. Their accusatory rhetoric, aimed solely at creating impressions, now makes it evident whom they are targeting and the political agenda they seek to serve.
Their consistency in promoting cynicism and discrediting institutions and investigative findings is deeply regrettable. It is apparent that they have chosen to invest in a flattening, unsubstantiated pre-election propaganda campaign that recalls the political fairy tales of another era.
Unlike many well-known cases from the past involving AKEL, we declare—and demonstrate—our full respect for due process, investigative findings, democratic institutions, and the independence of the branches of government.
