Σαν σήμερα, πριν από πενήντα δύο χρόνια, ο δεύτερος «Αττίλας» προέλαυνε προς την Αμμόχωστο.
Σήμερα τα δύο προσφυγικά σωματεία της Αμμοχώστου, η Νέα Σαλαμίνα και η Ανόρθωση, εξέδωσαν ανακοινώσεις.
Πρόσφατα, οι δύο ομάδες, η Νέα Σαλαμίνα και η Ανόρθωση, ανάρτησαν πανό στον δρόμο που οδηγεί στα γήπεδα των δύο ομάδων (στα φώτα ERA) και έστειλαν από κοινού ένα μήνυμα πως τα δύο προσφυγικά σωματεία της Αμμοχώστου περιμένουν την ημέρα του γυρισμού. Το από κοινού πανό έστειλε ένα δυνατό μήνυμα που συγκίνησε πολλούς από εμάς: Σε αυτόν τον αγώνα δεν πρέπει να υπάρχουν αντιπαλότητες. Είμαστε μαζί, ενωμένοι, για έναν κοινό σκοπό: ΓΙΑ ΤΗΝ ΕΛΕΥΘΕΡΙΑ ΤΗΣ ΠΑΤΡΙΔΑΣ ΜΑΣ.
Τα δύο προσφυγικά σωματεία δεν είναι μόνο ομάδες ποδοσφαίρου. Είναι, προπάντων και πάνω απ’ όλα, η φλόγα της επιστροφής που, 52 χρόνια μετά, παραμένει αναμμένη!
Πιο κάτω, οι ανακοινώσεις των δύο σωματείων, σήμερα, ανήμερα της μαύρης επετείου της 14ης Αυγούστου.
Ο λαός κοιτάζει πίσω για να θυμάται, μα προπάντων κοιτάζει μπροστά, για να παραδώσει μια ελεύθερη Κύπρο στις επόμενες γενιές. Και η Νέα Σαλαμίνα και η Ανόρθωση φαίνεται πως μας δείχνουν τον δρόμο: Σε αυτόν τον αγώνα δεν χωρούν αντιπαλότητες. Είμαστε μαζί, ενωμένοι, για έναν κοινό σκοπό: ΓΙΑ ΤΗΝ ΕΛΕΥΘΕΡΙΑ ΤΗΣ ΠΑΤΡΙΔΑΣ ΜΑΣ.
Πιο κάτω παραθέτουμε τις ανακοινώσεις των δύο σωματείων,
ανήμερα της μαύρης επετείου της 14ης Αυγούστου.
Η ανακοίνωση της ΝΕΑΣ ΣΑΛΑΜΙΝΑΣ
Η Νέα Σαλαμίνα, με αφορμή τη μαύρη επέτειο της 14ης Αυγούστου 1974, καταδικάζει απερίφραστα τη δεύτερη φάση της τουρκικής εισβολής.
«Η ΝΕΑ ΣΑΛΑΜΙΝΑ ΑΜΜΟΧΩΣΤΟΥ, με αφορμή τη μαύρη επέτειο της 14ης Αυγούστου 1974, καταδικάζει απερίφραστα τη δεύτερη φάση της τουρκικής εισβολής, η οποία σφράγισε οριστικά την τραγωδία της πατρίδας μας.
Την ημέρα εκείνη η πόλη μας άδειασε βιαστικά, μέσα σε φόβο και αβεβαιότητα. Οι δρόμοι, τα σπίτια, οι γειτονιές, οι πλατείες και οι παραλίες της Αμμοχώστου σίγησαν, καθώς οι κάτοικοί της υποχρεώθηκαν να φύγουν, αφήνοντας πίσω τις ζωές τους, τις μνήμες και τα όνειρά τους. Από τότε η Αμμόχωστος παραμένει κλειστή, κατεχόμενη, με τα κτήρια να στέκουν σιωπηλοί μάρτυρες της προσφυγιάς και της κατοχής.
Για τη ΝΕΑ ΣΑΛΑΜΙΝΑ ΑΜΜΟΧΩΣΤΟΥ, η 14η Αυγούστου 1974 είναι η μέρα που χάσαμε τη φυσική μας έδρα, το γήπεδο, τις εξέδρες, τις γειτονιές που μεγάλωσαν γενιές Σαλαμιναίων. Είναι η μέρα που η ομάδα μας έγινε προσφυγικό σωματείο, το οποίο έκτοτε κουβαλά πάντοτε στην καρδιά την Αμμόχωστο και τον κόσμο της. Κάθε αγώνας, κάθε φανέλα, κάθε παρουσία μας στα γήπεδα είναι ένας τρόπος να κρατάμε ζωντανή τη μνήμη της πόλης μας και των ανθρώπων της.
Σε αυτή τη μέρα μνήμης, η ΝΕΑ ΣΑΛΑΜΙΝΑ ΑΜΜΟΧΩΣΤΟΥ τιμά όσους χάθηκαν, όσους αγνοούνται και όλους τους Αμμοχωστιανούς που βιώνουν ακόμη τον ξεριζωμό. Δεν ξεχνάμε την πόλη μας, δεν αποδεχόμαστε την κατοχή και δεν σταματάμε να διεκδικούμε την ημέρα που η Αμμόχωστος θα ξαναζωντανέψει με τον κόσμο της πίσω στα σπίτια και στις γειτονιές του.
Η ανακοίνωση της ΑΝΟΡΘΩΣΗΣ:
Πενήντα δύο τώρα χρόνια, βουβή η άλλοτε πολύβουη, όμορφη κόρη. Του ρολογιού οι δείκτες σταμάτησαν στις 14 Αυγούστου 1974. Η καρδιά της πόλης όμως πάλλεται ακόμα. Βρίσκει τη δύναμη να χτυπά. Δυνατά, περήφανα. Κάθε χτύπος, κι ένας στίχος στα χείλη των κατοίκων της, που προσωρινά την αποχωρίστηκαν και περιμένουν καρτερικά τη μέρα της Επιστροφής: «Τραγουδάω για μια πόλη…». Κάθε χτύπος της καρδιάς της, μια αντίστροφη μέτρηση για τον Γυρισμό.
Σαν σήμερα, πριν από πενήντα δύο χρόνια, ο δεύτερος Αττίλας προέλαυνε προς την Αμμόχωστο. Οι Τούρκοι δεν σεβάστηκαν και έσπασαν την εκεχειρία, συνεχίζοντας υπό την ανοχή της διεθνούς κοινότητας την εφαρμογή του σχεδίου κατάληψης της μισής Κύπρου, στέλνοντας την Αϊσέ «διακοπές».
Με τους άρρενες Αμμοχωστιανούς να βρίσκονται σε μια μεγάλη πλειοψηφία εκτός της πόλης, επιτηρώντας τον θύλακα της Λευκωσίας, το Βαρώσι ήταν ουσιαστικά εύκολη λεία για την πάνοπλη, βάρβαρη, πολεμική μηχανή του Αττίλα. Τα άρματα των Τούρκων σκορπούσαν τον όλεθρο και την καταστροφή, με τα γυναικόπαιδα και τους ηλικιωμένους να παίρνουν τον δρόμο της προσφυγιάς, καταφεύγοντας στις ελεύθερες περιοχές για να γλιτώσουν. Καθώς, όσοι δεν έφυγαν, είτε έζησαν βιασμούς και βασανιστήρια, είτε δολοφονήθηκαν άνανδρα από τους Τούρκους στρατιώτες, είτε ακόμα αγνοούνται, πενήντα δύο χρόνια μετά.
Η φυγή ήταν προσωρινή. Για λίγες μέρες, για μερικές εβδομάδες, για κάποια χρόνια. Οι δεκαετίες όμως περνούν και η λευτεριά δεν λέει να έρθει. Η φυγή όμως παραμένει προσωρινή. Ο πόθος της Επιστροφής ολοένα και γιγαντώνεται. Το όραμα της επανεγκατάστασης στην πόλη των προγόνων μας συνεχίζει να είναι πρώτη προτεραιότητα για κάθε Αμμοχωστιανό και αυξάνει ανάλογα με τον χρόνο που περνά. Η φλόγα της Βασιλεύουσας συνεχίζει να καίει τα σωθικά των νέων γενιών, που μεγαλώνουν με το τραγούδι της Αμμοχώστου στα χείλη.
Πρέσβειρα της Αμμοχώστου και θεματοφύλακας του οράματος της Επιστροφής, η Ανόρθωσις Αμμοχώστου. Από κοινού, μαζί με όλα τα προσφυγικά σωματεία, διεξάγουμε καθημερινό και αδιάκοπο αγώνα να κρατήσουμε αυτή τη φλόγα αναμμένη. Να θυμίζουμε πρώτα στους εαυτούς μας, μετά στους συμπατριώτες μας κι ύστερα σε όλο τον υπόλοιπο κόσμο, πως αυτή η γη δεν είναι δική τους. Με τη βία την πήραν και παράνομα την κρατούν. Όπως ξαφνικά όμως ήρθαν, έτσι απότομα θα φύγουν.
Announcements by Nea Salamina and Anorthosis for Today, August 14
On this day, fifty-two years ago, the second phase of the Turkish invasion, known as “Attila II,” advanced towards Famagusta.
Today, the two refugee associations of Famagusta, Nea Salamina and Anorthosis, issued statements.
Recently, the two teams, Nea Salamina and Anorthosis, put up a banner along the road leading to the two teams’ stadiums (at the ERA traffic lights) and jointly sent a message that the two refugee associations of Famagusta are waiting for the day of return.
The joint banner sent a powerful message that moved many of us: In this struggle, there must be no rivalries. We stand together, united, for one common purpose: FOR THE FREEDOM OF OUR HOMELAND.
The two refugee associations are not merely football clubs. They are, first and foremost, the flame of return, which, 52 years later, remains burning!
Below are the statements issued by the two associations today, on the 52nd anniversary of the tragic events of August 14.
The people look back in order to remember, but above all, they look forward, so that they may hand down a free Cyprus to the next generations. And both Nea Salamina and Anorthosis seem to be showing us the way: In this struggle, there is no room for rivalries. We stand together, united, for one common purpose: FOR THE FREEDOM OF OUR HOMELAND.

Statement by NEA SALAMINA
Nea Salamina, on the occasion of the tragic anniversary of August 14, 1974, unequivocally condemns the second phase of the Turkish invasion.
“NEA SALAMINA FAMAGUSTA, on the occasion of the tragic anniversary of August 14, 1974, unequivocally condemns the second phase of the Turkish invasion, which sealed the tragedy of our homeland.
On that day, our city was hastily emptied, amid fear and uncertainty. The streets, homes, neighbourhoods, squares and beaches of Famagusta fell silent, as its inhabitants were forced to leave, abandoning behind their lives, memories and dreams. Since then, Famagusta has remained closed and under occupation, with its buildings standing as silent witnesses to displacement and occupation.
For NEA SALAMINA FAMAGUSTA, August 14, 1974, is the day we lost our natural home, our stadium, our stands, and the neighbourhoods where generations of Salamians grew up. It is the day our team became a refugee association, which ever since has carried Famagusta and its people in its heart. Every match, every jersey, every presence of ours in the stadiums is a way of keeping alive the memory of our city and its people.
On this day of remembrance, NEA SALAMINA FAMAGUSTA honours those who were killed, those who remain missing, and all Famagustans who continue to experience displacement. We do not forget our city, we do not accept the occupation, and we will never stop demanding the day when Famagusta will come back to life, with its people back in their homes and neighbourhoods.”
Statement by ANORTHOSIS
“For fifty-two years now, the once bustling and beautiful daughter has remained silent. The hands of the clock stopped on August 14, 1974. Yet the heart of the city still beats. It finds the strength to go on beating. Strongly, proudly. Each beat is a verse on the lips of its inhabitants, who were temporarily separated from her and patiently await the day of Return: ‘I sing for a city…’ Each beat of her heart is a countdown to the Return.
On this day, fifty-two years ago, the second phase of the Turkish invasion, Attila II, advanced towards Famagusta. The Turks showed no respect for the ceasefire and violated it, continuing, with the tolerance of the international community, to implement the plan to occupy half of Cyprus, sending Ayşe ‘on holiday’.
With the male population of Famagusta, in its vast majority, outside the city, guarding the Nicosia enclave, Varosha was essentially easy prey for Attila’s heavily armed and barbaric war machine. Turkish tanks spread destruction and devastation, while women, children and the elderly were forced onto the road of displacement, fleeing to the free areas to save themselves. Those who did not leave either endured rape and torture, were brutally murdered by Turkish soldiers, or remain missing, even fifty-two years later.
The departure was temporary. For a few days, a few weeks, a few years. Yet the decades have passed, and freedom has still not come. The departure, however, remains temporary. The longing for Return grows ever stronger. The vision of resettlement in the city of our ancestors continues to be the first priority for every Famagustan and grows stronger with every passing year. The flame of the Queen City continues to burn in the hearts of the younger generations, who grow up with the song of Famagusta on their lips.
Ambassador of Famagusta and guardian of the vision of Return, Anorthosis Famagusta. Together, alongside all the refugee associations, we carry out a daily and relentless struggle to keep this flame burning. To remind first ourselves, then our fellow countrymen, and finally the rest of the world, that this land does not belong to them. They took it by force and illegally continue to hold it. Yet just as suddenly as they came, so abruptly they will leave.”
