Δεν είμαι του ΔΗΣΥ, είναι, ίσως, γνωστό. Ωστόσο, έχω μάθει, με κόπο, να αναγνωρίζω τόσο τα θετικά όσο και τα αρνητικά πολιτικών, ανεξαρτήτως κόμματος, καθώς πιστεύω ότι μόνο μια τέτοια ειλικρινής στάση μπορεί να μας οδηγήσει μπροστά.
Τα όσα συμβαίνουν γύρω από τον Νίκο Αναστασιάδη και το λεγόμενο «κράτος μαφία» είναι γνωστά.
Το γεγονός ότι ο ΔΗΣΥ στρουθοκαμηλίζει και μας μιλά για…. το Μαρί, αποτελεί ένα άλλο κεφάλαιο προς ανάλυση, τόσο πολιτική όσο και κοινωνικοψυχολογική. Σε άλλο άρθρο, ίσως.
Ωστόσο, το ότι ο Δημήτρης Δημητρίου τοποθετήθηκε με κρυστάλλινη ειλικρίνεια (σπάνια για την πολιτική σκηνή και δη για το κόμμα του) αποτελεί μια αχτίδα ελπίδας μέσα σε έναν ήδη βουτηγμένο στον βούρκο ΔΗΣΥ. Και λεω «βουτηγμένο στον βούρκο», διότι η διακυβέρνηση του επίτιμου προέδρου του κόμματος, εάν επιβεβαιωθούν όσα καταγράφονται στο βιβλίο του Δρουσιώτη, θα γραφτεί στην ιστορία ως η χειρότερη σε διαφθορά και σκάνδαλα εις βάρος του Κυπριακού λαού.
Ο Δημητρίου, λοιπόν, ο κοινοβουλευτικός εκπρόσωπος του κόμματος, ξεκαθάρισε ότι, κατά την εκτίμησή του, ο Νίκος Αναστασιάδης θα έπρεπε από την πρώτη στιγμή να έχει δηλώσει αποχή από τα συλλογικά όργανα του κόμματος, καθώς το πόρισμα τον εκθέτει πολιτικά, ανεξάρτητα από την εξέλιξη τυχόν ποινικών διαδικασιών, για τις οποίες θα αποφανθεί η ομάδα των ποινικών ανακριτών.
Ο Δημητρίου είπε το αυτονόητο και το σωστό – και έτσι διέσωσε ένα μικρό μέρος της χαμένης τιμής του κόμματος του. Αντί να τον χειροκροτήσουν, ορισμένα στελέχη στράφηκαν εναντίον του για τη… στοιχειώδη ειλικρίνειά του.

Dimitris Dimitriou of DISY: the hope within the party’s swamp?

I am not a DISY supporter — that is, perhaps, known. However, I have learned, through effort, to acknowledge both the positive and negative aspects of politicians, regardless of party affiliation, as I believe that only such an honest stance can move us forward.
What has been unfolding around Nicos Anastasiades and the so-called “mafia state” is well known.
The fact that DISY is engaging in ostrich politics and now talks about… Mari, is another chapter for analysis — both political and socio-psychological.
However, the fact that Dimitris Dimitriou spoke with crystal-clear honesty (rare in the political scene and especially for his party) represents a ray of hope within an already mud-soaked DISY. And I say “mud-soaked,” because the governance of the party’s honorary president, if what is recorded in the Drusiotis book is confirmed, will go down in history as one of the most corrupt and scandal-ridden administrations against the people.
Dimitriou, therefore, the party’s parliamentary spokesperson, made it clear that, in his view, Nicos Anastasiades should have declared from the very beginning that he would abstain from the party’s collective bodies, as the report politically exposes him, regardless of the outcome of any criminal proceedings, which will be decided by the team of criminal investigators.
Dimitriou said the obvious and the right thing — and in doing so, he salvaged a small part of his party’s lost honour. Instead of being praised, certain party officials turned against him for his… elementary honesty.
Well, no wonder why.
