Ο Κύπριος σχεδιαστής Michael Anastassiades συνεχίζει να εξερευνά τα λεπτά όρια ανάμεσα στο αντικείμενο, την αίσθηση και τη μνήμη μέσα από τη νέα του συνεργασία με τον οίκο Alessi. Η σειρά Rocc δεν αποτελεί απλώς μια συλλογή αρωματικών κεριών, αλλά μια σχεδιαστική άσκηση πάνω σε ένα ποιητικό παράδοξο: πώς μπορεί να αποκτήσει άρωμα κάτι που από τη φύση του είναι άοσμο;
Με πολυετή ενασχόληση με τον κόσμο των ορυκτών και των φυσικών υλικών, ο Anastassiades αντλεί έμπνευση από την πέτρα και επιλέγει έξι στοιχεία με ιδιαίτερη προσωπική σημασία: μάρμαρο, βασάλτη, κεχριμπάρι, αμέθυστο, άργιλο και πυρόλιθο. Σε συνεργασία με τον γαλλικό οίκο αρωμάτων Robertet, δημιουργεί έξι αρωματικές συνθέσεις που δεν επιχειρούν να μιμηθούν τα υλικά, αλλά να αποδώσουν τις μνήμες, τις υφές και τα τοπία που τα περιβάλλουν.
Η σχεδιαστική προσέγγιση παραμένει πιστή στη λιτή, σχεδόν αρχιτεκτονική γλώσσα του δημιουργού: καθαρές γραμμές, ισορροπία και διαχρονική κομψότητα. Τα κεριά τοποθετούνται σε γυαλισμένα ανοξείδωτα δοχεία με καπάκι, αντικείμενα που διατηρούν τη χρηστικότητά τους και μετά την καύση του κεριού, επεκτείνοντας τη ζωή του σχεδιασμού πέρα από την αρχική του λειτουργία.
Με τη σειρά Rocc, η εμπειρία του αρωματικού κεριού μετατρέπεται σε μια πολυαισθητηριακή αφήγηση, όπου η πέτρα —σύμβολο σταθερότητας και σιωπής— αποκτά μια απρόσμενη, σχεδόν ποιητική διάσταση μέσα από το άρωμα.
Η συλλογή είναι διαθέσιμη στη Λάρνακα, μέσα από επιλεγμένους χώρους σύγχρονου design, όπως το Spyra Design Store, το οποίο φιλοξενεί αντικείμενα διεθνών δημιουργών και συλλογές που ξεχωρίζουν για την αισθητική και τη φιλοσοφία τους. Μέσα σε αυτό το περιβάλλον, τα κεριά Rocc εντάσσονται φυσικά, ως αντικείμενα που γεφυρώνουν την τέχνη με την καθημερινή εμπειρία.

ROCC — When stone acquires scent
…acquires scent at the Spyra Design Store in Larnaca.
Cypriot designer Michael Anastassiades continues to explore the subtle boundaries between object, sensation, and memory through his new collaboration with the house of Alessi. The Rocc series is not simply a collection of scented candles, but a design exercise rooted in a poetic paradox: how can something that is inherently odourless acquire a scent?
With a long-standing engagement with the world of minerals and natural materials, Anastassiades draws inspiration from stone, selecting six elements of personal significance: marble, basalt, amber, amethyst, clay, and flint. In collaboration with the French fragrance house Robertet, he creates six distinctive olfactory compositions that do not attempt to imitate the materials themselves, but rather evoke the memories, textures, and landscapes associated with them.
The design approach remains faithful to the creator’s restrained, almost architectural language: clean lines, balance, and timeless elegance. The candles are housed in polished stainless-steel containers with lids—objects designed to remain useful even after the candle has burned down, extending the life of the design beyond its original function.
With the Rocc series, the experience of a scented candle becomes a multi-sensory narrative, where stone—a symbol of permanence and silence—acquires an unexpected, almost poetic dimension through scent.
The collection is available in Larnaca through selected contemporary design spaces such as Spyra Design Store, which hosts objects by international designers and collections distinguished by their aesthetics and philosophy. Within this environment, the Rocc candles find a natural place, bridging art and everyday experience.
