Ο ΕΟΑ Λάρνακας ενισχύει την πράσινη και ψηφιακή μετάβαση μέσω ευρωπαϊκών χρηματοδοτήσεων
Ο Επαρχιακός Οργανισμός Αυτοδιοίκησης Λάρνακας αξιοποιεί συστηματικά ευρωπαϊκά χρηματοδοτικά εργαλεία, προωθώντας έργα που συμβάλλουν στον εκσυγχρονισμό των υποδομών, την πράσινη και ψηφιακή μετάβαση και τη βιώσιμη διαχείριση των υδατικών πόρων.
Από την έναρξη της λειτουργίας του, ο ΕΟΑ Λάρνακας έχει εξασφαλίσει σημαντικές χρηματοδοτήσεις για έργα ύδρευσης, αποχέτευσης, αντιπλημμυρικής προστασίας, έρευνας και καινοτομίας. Συγκεκριμένα, έχει διασφαλίσει περίπου €11 εκατομμύρια από το Σχέδιο Ανάκαμψης και Ανθεκτικότητας για έργα ύδρευσης και αποχέτευσης, μεταξύ των οποίων η εγκατάσταση 27.500 έξυπνων υδρομετρητών στην πόλη και επαρχία της Λάρνακας, η ανέγερση της νέας υδατοδεξαμενής χωρητικότητας 12.000 κυβικών μέτρων, η οποία διασφαλίζει επάρκεια νερού για 24 ώρες, ο ψηφιακός μετασχηματισμός των υπηρεσιών Ύδρευσης & Αποχέτευσης της Λάρνακας μέσω της ανάπτυξης του εργαλείου Zenon Drinking & Waste Water Decision Support System σε συνεργασία με το Πανεπιστήμιο Κύπρου, η προστασία του Αποχετευτικού Δικτύου Λάρνακας από τις επιπτώσεις παραγωγής υδρόθειου και η εγκατάσταση φωτοβολταϊκών συστημάτων για ενίσχυση της ενεργειακής αυτονομίας του Οργανισμού.
Παράλληλα, έχουν εκταμιευθεί πέραν των €27 εκατομμυρίων από το Πρόγραμμα Πολιτικής Συνοχής «ΘΑλΕΙΑ 2021–2027» για τη Γ’ Φάση του Αποχετευτικού Συστήματος Λάρνακας, περίπου €1,2 εκατομμύρια για τα Έργα Πλημμυρικής Αποσυμφόρησης Λάρνακας – Φάση Α’, στην περιοχή Αγίου Λαζάρου – Οκκουλάρ, καθώς και €3 εκατομμύρια για το δίκτυο ύδευσης της Βορόκληνης.
Ο ΕΟΑ Λάρνακας συμμετέχει επίσης σε σημαντικά ευρωπαϊκά ερευνητικά και καινοτόμα έργα, όπως το FRESHNESS, με χρηματοδότηση €250.000, το Sludge2Energy, με χρηματοδότηση €622.500, και το REGENIOUS, με χρηματοδότηση €750.000. Τα έργα αυτά αφορούν την ενεργειακή αποδοτικότητα, τη βιώσιμη διαχείριση των υδάτινων πόρων, την αξιοποίηση της λυματολάσπης για παραγωγή ενέργειας και βιοάνθρακα, καθώς και την ανάπτυξη νέων τεχνολογιών κυκλικής οικονομίας.
Η συμμετοχή του ΕΟΑ Λάρνακας σε ευρωπαϊκά έργα υψηλής προστιθέμενης αξίας επιβεβαιώνει τη στρατηγική του προσήλωση στην καινοτομία, την περιβαλλοντική προστασία και τη δημιουργία σύγχρονων και ανθεκτικών υποδομών προς όφελος των πολιτών της επαρχίας.
Σημαντικό μέρος αυτής της προσπάθειας αποτελεί και η ανάπτυξη συνεργασιών με ακαδημαϊκούς, ερευνητικούς, θεσμικούς και περιβαλλοντικούς φορείς, μέσω Μνημονίων Συνεργασίας. Μεταξύ άλλων, ο ΕΟΑ Λάρνακας συνεργάζεται με πανεπιστήμια, ερευνητικά κέντρα και οργανισμούς ύδρευσης και αποχέτευσης από την Κύπρο και την Ελλάδα, με στόχο την ανταλλαγή τεχνογνωσίας, την προώθηση της έρευνας και την περαιτέρω αξιοποίηση ευρωπαϊκών χρηματοδοτικών ευκαιριών.
Στο πλαίσιο αυτό, ο Οργανισμός έχει συνάψει συνεργασίες με σημαντικούς φορείς, όπως το Πανεπιστήμιο Κύπρου (συμπεριλαμβανομένου του Κέντρου Αριστείας ΚΙΟΣ και του Διεθνούς Ερευνητικού Κέντρου Νερού – ΝΗΡΕΑΣ), το Τεχνολογικό Πανεπιστήμιο Κύπρου (ΤΕΠΑΚ), το Πανεπιστήμιο Αιγαίου, το Ελληνικό Μεσογειακό Πανεπιστήμιο, το Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute (CMMI), το Αμερικάνικο Πανεπιστήμιο Κύπρου (AUCY), το Institute of Alexander College, καθώς και με οργανισμούς ύδρευσης/αποχέτευσης και περιβαλλοντικούς φορείς, όπως η Εταιρία Ύδρευσης και Αποχέτευσης Θεσσαλονίκης (ΕΥΑΘ Υπηρεσίες Α.Ε.), η Δημοτική Επιχείρηση Ύδρευσης και Αποχέτευσης Ηρακλείου (ΔΕΥΑΗ), το Τμήμα Περιβάλλοντος του Υπουργείου Γεωργίας, Αγροτικής Ανάπτυξης και Περιβάλλοντος και άλλους δημόσιους και ιδιωτικούς συνεργαζόμενους φορείς.
Ο ΕΟΑ Λάρνακας θα συνεχίσει να εργάζεται με συνέπεια για την εξασφάλιση πόρων, την αναβάθμιση των υπηρεσιών του και την υλοποίηση έργων που ανταποκρίνονται στις σύγχρονες ανάγκες της επαρχίας και των πολιτών της.

Larnaca District Local Government Organization strengthens green and digital transition through European funding
The Larnaca District Local Government Organization (EOA Larnaca) is systematically utilizing European funding instruments, promoting projects that contribute to the modernization of infrastructure, the green and digital transition, and the sustainable management of water resources.
Since the beginning of its operation, EOA Larnaca has secured significant funding for water supply, sewerage, flood protection, research, and innovation projects. Specifically, it has secured approximately €11 million from the Recovery and Resilience Plan for water supply and sewerage projects, including the installation of 27,500 smart water meters across Larnaca city and district; the construction of a new 12,000 cubic metre water reservoir, which ensures water sufficiency for 24 hours; the digital transformation of Larnaca’s Water Supply and Sewerage Services through the development of the Zenon Drinking & Waste Water Decision Support System, in collaboration with the University of Cyprus; the protection of the Larnaca Sewerage Network from the effects of hydrogen sulphide production; and the installation of photovoltaic systems to enhance the Organization’s energy autonomy.
At the same time, more than €27 million have been allocated from the Cohesion Policy Programme “THALIA 2021–2027” for Phase III of the Larnaca Sewerage System, approximately €1.2 million for the Larnaca Flood Mitigation Works – Phase A, in the Agios Lazaros – Okkoular area, as well as €3 million for the water supply network of Voroklini.
EOA Larnaca is also participating in important European research and innovation projects, such as FRESHNESS, with funding of €250,000; Sludge2Energy, with funding of €622,500; and REGENIOUS, with funding of €750,000. These projects focus on energy efficiency, sustainable water resource management, the utilization of sewage sludge for the production of energy and biochar, as well as the development of new circular economy technologies.
The participation of EOA Larnaca in high-value European projects confirms its strategic commitment to innovation, environmental protection, and the creation of modern and resilient infrastructure for the benefit of the citizens of the district.
An important part of this effort is also the development of partnerships with academic, research, institutional, and environmental bodies through Memoranda of Cooperation. Among others, EOA Larnaca collaborates with universities, research centres, and water supply and sewerage organizations from Cyprus and Greece, aiming to exchange expertise, promote research, and further utilize European funding opportunities.
Within this framework, the Organization has established collaborations with significant bodies, including the University of Cyprus (including the KIOS Center of Excellence and the International Water Research Centre – NIREAS), the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT), the University of the Aegean, the Hellenic Mediterranean University, the Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute (CMMI), the American University of Cyprus (AUCY), the Institute of Alexander College, as well as with water supply/sewerage organizations and environmental bodies such as the Thessaloniki Water Supply and Sewerage Company (EYATH Services S.A.), the Municipal Water Supply and Sewerage Company of Heraklion (DEYAH), the Department of Environment of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, and other public and private partner organizations.
EOA Larnaca will continue working consistently towards securing resources, upgrading its services, and implementing projects that address the modern needs of the district and its citizens.
