Μετά τον πνιγμό και τον θάνατο δύο νέων ανθρώπων στην παραλία της Ορόκλινης, τον περασμένο μήνα, θα ανέμενε κανείς ότι η Επαρχιακή Διοίκηση Λάρνακας θα είχε ευαισθητοποιηθεί περισσότερο γύρω από το ζήτημα και θα είχε προχωρήσει άμεσα σε ενέργειες.
Αμ δε!
Σήμερα το πρωί επικοινώνησαν με το SkalaTimes γονείς παιδιών ΑμεΑ που χρησιμοποιούν τροχοκαθίσματα, καταγγέλλοντας ότι οι ναυαγοσώστες αναλαμβάνουν υπηρεσία στις 10:30 το πρωί.
«Δηλαδή, αν θέλουμε να φέρουμε τα παιδιά μας νωρίτερα, όταν ο ήλιος δεν είναι τόσο έντονος, δεν μπορούμε;» ανέφερε στο SkalaTimes η μητέρα που επικοινώνησε μαζί μας.
Η ίδια σημείωσε πως, σε τηλεφωνική επικοινωνία που είχε με την Επαρχιακή Διοίκηση Λάρνακας, η απάντηση που έλαβε ήταν ότι «δεν βρίσκουν ναυαγοσώστες»!
Ωστόσο, το SkalaTimes αρχές του φετινού καλοκαιριού είχε δεχθεί επικοινωνίες από 2-3 φοιτητές, οι οποίοι ανέφεραν ότι διαθέτουν τα απαραίτητα πιστοποιητικά και αναζητούν εργασία ως ναυαγοσώστες. Αν η Επαρχιακή Διοίκηση επιθυμεί, μπορούμε να της δώσουμε τα στοιχεία επικοινωνίας τους. Την ίδια ώρα, γεννώνται εύλογα ερωτήματα: Έχει δημοσιεύσει αγγελίες η Επαρχιακή Διοίκηση και δεν βρίσκει ενδιαφερόμενους; Και αν πράγματι υπάρχει πρόβλημα στελέχωσης, γιατί οι ναυαγοσώστες δεν εργοδοτούνται καθ’ όλη τη διάρκεια του χρόνου, αλλά μόνο για οκτώ μήνες, με όλα τα προβλήματα που αυτό συνεπάγεται;
Άλλωστε, σε μια παραλιακή πόλη όπως η Λάρνακα, υπάρχουν άνθρωποι που κολυμπούν χειμώνα-καλοκαίρι.
Η ευθύνη της ευθύνης… ω ευθύνη!
Επιπλέον, όταν η μητέρα παιδιού ΑμεΑ επικοινώνησε με την Επαρχιακή Διοίκηση για την παραλία με υποδομές για τροχοκαθίσματα στην περιοχή Μακένζι, για να κάνει το παράπονο της πως δεν υπάρχει ναυαγοσώστης πρις τις 10:30 πμ ενημερώθηκε ότι η ευθύνη για την συγκεκριμένη παραλία για τροχοκαθίμαστα ανήκει στον Δήμο Λάρνακας.
Η μητέρα επικοινώνησε με τον Δήμο Λάρνακας και, σύμφωνα με την ίδια, έλαβε την απάντηση ότι η αρμοδιότητα ανήκει στην Επαρχιακή Διοίκηση!
Τελικά;
Ποιος είναι υπεύθυνος; Και μέχρι να ξεκαθαριστεί η «ευθύνη της ευθύνης», ποιος αναλαμβάνει τελικά την ευθύνη για την ασφάλεια των πολιτών;
Μήπως η Επαρχιακή Διοίκηση περιμένει να πνιγούν ακόμη δύο ή τρεις άνθρωποι φέτος για να προχωρήσει επιτέλους σε ουσιαστικές ενέργειες;
Πού ακούστηκε να ξεκινούν υπηρεσία οι ναυαγοσώστες στις 10:30 το πρωί; Κατανοούμε ότι ίσως αποτελεί «πιο φθηνή λύση», όμως όταν μιλάμε για ανθρώπινες ζωές, το κόστος δεν μπορεί να είναι το βασικό κριτήριο.
Οι αρμόδιοι φορείς οφείλουν να δώσουν απαντήσεις.
Οι βουλευτές και τα κόμματα της Λάρνακας καλούνται να δράσουν ΑΜΕΣΑ!
People drowned, the District Administration cannot find lifeguards… Should SkalaTimes find them for you?

Following the drowning and death of two young people at Oroklini beach last month, one would have expected the Larnaca District Administration to have become more sensitive to the issue and to have taken immediate action.
But no!
This morning, parents of children with disabilities who use wheelchairs contacted SkalaTimes, reporting that lifeguards only begin their duty at 10:30 a.m.
“Meaning that if we want to bring our children earlier, when the sun is not as strong, we cannot?” the mother who contacted SkalaTimes told us.
She noted that, during a telephone conversation she had with the Larnaca District Administration, the response she received was that they “cannot find lifeguards”!
However, earlier this summer, SkalaTimes had received messages from 2-3 university students who stated that they hold the necessary certifications and are looking for work as lifeguards. If the District Administration wishes, we can provide their contact details.
At the same time, reasonable questions arise: Has the District Administration published job advertisements and failed to find applicants? And if there is indeed a staffing problem, why are lifeguards not employed throughout the entire year, but only for eight months, with all the problems this entails?
After all, in a coastal city like Larnaca, there are people who swim all year round.
The responsibility of responsibility… oh, responsibility!
Furthermore, when the mother of a child with disabilities contacted the District Administration regarding the wheelchair-accessible beach at Mackenzie, in order to complain that there is no lifeguard before 10:30 a.m., she was informed that responsibility for this particular accessible beach belongs to the Municipality of Larnaca.
The mother then contacted the Municipality of Larnaca and, according to her, was told that the responsibility lies with the District Administration!
So, who is actually responsible?
And until the “responsibility of responsibility” is clarified, who ultimately takes responsibility for the safety of citizens?
Could it be that the District Administration is waiting for another two or three people to drown this year before finally taking meaningful action?
Where else in the world do lifeguards begin their shift at 10:30 in the morning? We understand that this may be considered a “cheaper solution”, but when human lives are at stake, cost cannot be the main criterion.
The relevant authorities owe the public answers.
The Members of Parliament and political parties of Larnaca are called upon to act IMMEDIATELY!
