Αυτή τη στιγμή το εκλογικό σώμα είναι γύρω στις 561.000, ενώ όπως είπε αναμένεται αύξηση
Κάθε σπίτι και υποψήφιος, κάθε περιοχή και κόμμα, κάπως έτσι…..
Εικοσιέξι εγγεγραμμένα πολιτικά κόμματα υπάρχουν αυτή τη στιγμή στο Μητρώο, ενώ εκκρεμούν ακόμη τρεις αιτήσεις, σύμφωνα με τον Έφορο Εκλογών Μενέλαο Βασιλείου. Μιλώντας στη Διασπορά Ειδήσεων και την Οριάνα Παπαντωνίου, είπε πως, «φαίνεται ότι πάμε για το ψηφοδέλτιο που είχαμε πει μπρος-πίσω δύο όψεων, με βάση τον αριθμό των συνδυασμών των κομμάτων που ακούγονται. Ο ακριβής αριθμός θα ξεκαθαρίσει στις 6 Μαΐου, που είναι η ορισμένη ημερομηνία υποβολής υποψηφιοτήτων».
Ερωτηθείς τι αφορούν οι αιτήσεις που εκκρεμούν, ο κ. Βασιλείου είπε πως, «η τελευταία εγγραφή που έγινε, το 26ο κόμμα, ο Αγρόνομος Αγροτικό Εργατικό Κόμμα, δημοσιεύθηκε την προηγούνεμπ στην Επίσημη Εφημερίδα της Δημοκρατίας. Από εκεί και πέρα υπάρχει η «Άμεση Δημοκρατία», της οποίας η αίτηση απορρίφθηκε αρχικά ζητήθηκε αλλαγή ονόματος η προσθήκη πρόσθετου κειμένου στο όνομα. Υποβλήθηκε τροποποιημένο όνομα «Άμεση Δημοκρατία Κύπρου» και εγκρίθηκε. Απλώς εκκρεμεί να υποβληθεί η αίτηση από τον Πρόεδρο. Υπάρχει το «Σήκου Πάνω» που υποβλήθηκε 14 Ιανουαρίου, εξετάστηκε η αίτηση και προέκυψαν κάποιες παρατηρήσεις όσον αφορά το καταστατικό, κοινοποιήθηκαν στον Πρόεδρο του κόμματος και αναμένουμε απάντηση. Τέλος, υπάρχει και το κόμμα «Λαϊκό Αγώνα Ελευθερία», του οποίου η αίτηση βρίσκεται υπό εξέταση».
Παράλληλα είπε πως, δεν υπάρχει χρονικός περιορισμός για να εγγραφεί κάποιο πολιτικό κόμμα. «Απλώς, η υποβολή υποψηφιοτήτων για τις βουλευτικές εκλογές του 2026 είναι στις 6 Μαΐου».
Σύμφωνα με τον κ. Βασιλείου, αυτή τη στιγμή το εκλογικό σώμα είναι γύρω στις 561.000, ενώ όπως είπε αναμένεται αύξηση των ψηφοφόρων. «Αναμένουμε αύξηση, διότι σε σχέση με τις βουλευτικές του 2024 ο αριθμός έχει μειωθεί λόγω θανάτων και περιορισμένων νέων εγγραφών μέχρι στιγμής».
Σύμφωνα με τον ίδιο, παραδοσιακά οι εγγραφές αυξάνονται στο τελευταίο τρίμηνο πριν από τις εκλογές. «Δηλαδή, από 3 Ιανουαρίου μέχρι 2 Απριλίου μπορούν να γίνουν εγγραφές για τις εκλογές του Μαΐου. Τώρα είμαστε περίπου στις 1.300 αιτήσεις και αναμένουμε να αυξηθούν».
Αναφερόμενο στη διαδικασία για όσους θα βρίσκονται στο εξωτερικό την ημέρα των εκλογών, είπε πως πρέπει να υποβληθεί σχετική δήλωση μέχρι τις 2 Απριλίου, ηλεκτρονικά ή μέσω πρεσβειών.
Η μεγάλη αλλαγή είναι το ψηφοδέλτιο είπε ο κ. Βασιλείου, καθώς είναι το μεγαλύτερο που είχαμε ποτέ.
Parliamentary Elections: 26 Registered Parties – Three Applications Pending
The electorate currently stands at around 561,000, with an increase expected.
“Every household a candidate, every neighborhood a party” — that’s more or less the picture taking shape.
There are currently twenty-six registered political parties listed in the Registry, while three additional applications are still pending, according to the Chief Returning Officer, Menelaos Vasileiou.
Speaking to Diaspora News and journalist Oriana Papantoniou, he stated: “It appears that we are heading toward the double-sided ballot paper we previously mentioned, based on the number of party combinations being discussed. The exact number will be clarified on May 6, which is the official deadline for submitting candidacies.”
Asked about the pending applications, Mr. Vasileiou explained: “The most recent registration — the 26th party — the Agronomos Agricultural Labour Party, was published last Thursday in the Official Gazette of the Republic. In addition, there is ‘Direct Democracy,’ whose initial application was rejected, with a request for a name change and the addition of further wording. A revised name, ‘Direct Democracy of Cyprus,’ was submitted and approved. What remains pending is the formal submission of the application by the party President.
There is also ‘Sikou Pano’ (Rise Up), which submitted its application on January 14. The application was examined and certain observations were made regarding its statute. These were communicated to the party President, and we are awaiting a response. Finally, there is the party ‘Popular Struggle – Freedom,’ whose application is currently under review.”
At the same time, Mr. Vasileiou noted that there is no time restriction for registering a political party. “However, the submission of candidacies for the 2026 parliamentary elections is set for May 6.”
According to Mr. Vasileiou, the electorate currently numbers around 561,000, and an increase in voters is expected. “We anticipate an increase, because compared to the 2024 parliamentary elections, the number has decreased due to deaths and limited new registrations so far.”
He added that voter registrations traditionally increase during the final three months before the elections. “That is, from January 3 to April 2, registrations can be made for the May elections. At the moment, we have approximately 1,300 applications and expect this number to rise.”
Referring to the procedure for those who will be abroad on election day, he said that a relevant declaration must be submitted by April 2, either electronically or through embassies.
The major change, Mr. Vasileiou concluded, is the ballot paper itself, which will be the largest ever used.
