Υπό τετραήμερη κράτηση τέθηκαν από το Επαρχιακό Δικαστήριο Λάρνακας δύο γνωστοί επιχειρηματίες, ηλικίας 47 και 43 ετών, που συνελήφθησαν χθες ως ύποπτοι για παρέμβαση σε δικαστική διαδικασία και συνωμοσία προς διάπραξη πλημμελήματος, σε σχέση με τη συμπλοκή και τη ρίψη πυροβολισμών που σημειώθηκε το περασμένο Σάββατο στο κέντρο της Λάρνακας. Ο 47χρονος θεωρείται επιπλέον ύποπτος για παράνομη κατοχή περιουσίας.
Στο δικαστήριο υπήρχαν δρακόντεια μέτρα ασφαλείας, με ενόπλους αστυνομικούς να επιτηρούν την αίθουσα. Οι επιχειρηματίες φέρονται να συναντήθηκαν στις 21 Ιανουαρίου με τον παραπονούμενο στην υπόθεση, γεγονός που ήρθε σε γνώση της Αστυνομίας και καταγράφηκε σε κατάθεση.
Οι συλλήψεις έγιναν στο πλαίσιο συντονισμένης επιχείρησης από ΤΑΕ, ΑΔΕ Λάρνακας και ΥΔΑΠ Αρχηγείου. Στα γραφεία της εταιρείας του 47χρονου εντοπίστηκε και παραλήφθηκε μεγάλο χρηματικό ποσό και αριθμός τραπεζικών επιταγών. Παράλληλα, συνελήφθησαν τρία άτομα που εκτελούσαν καθήκοντα φρουρού χωρίς άδεια, ενώ κατασχέθηκε και όχημα δοκιμής. Ο 43χρονος εντοπίστηκε αργότερα στην οικία του.
Οι επιχειρηματίες αρνούνται τις κατηγορίες. Σημειώνεται ότι συνολικά υπό κράτηση για τη ρίψη πυροβολισμών τελούν έξι άτομα, ανάμεσά τους ο 48χρονος φερόμενος ως επικεφαλής της ομάδας. Σύμφωνα με τα στοιχεία που κατατέθηκαν στο δικαστήριο, η εγκληματική ομάδα ζητούσε χρήματα για «προστασία» από επιχειρηματία, απειλούσε με μαχαίρι και προέβη σε επίθεση με πυροβολισμούς όταν αρνήθηκε να πληρώσει.

Larnaca: Two businessmen remanded in four-day custody over conspiracy and firearm discharge
Two well-known businessmen, aged 47 and 43, who were arrested yesterday, have been placed in four-day custody by the Larnaca District Court as suspects in offences involving interference with judicial proceedings and conspiracy to commit a misdemeanour, in connection with the brawl and the discharge of firearms that occurred last Saturday in the centre of Larnaca. The 47-year-old is also considered a suspect for illegal possession of property.
Strict security measures were in place at the court, with armed police officers guarding the courtroom. The businessmen are reported to have met on 21 January with the complainant in the case, a fact that came to the attention of the Police and was recorded in a statement.
The arrests were carried out as part of a coordinated operation by the Larnaca CID (TAE), the Larnaca Crime Investigation Department (ADE), and the Headquarters’ Drug Law Enforcement Unit (YDAP). At the offices of the 47-year-old’s company, a large sum of money and a number of bank cheques were located and seized. At the same time, three individuals performing duties as guards without a licence were arrested, while a test vehicle was also confiscated. The 43-year-old was located later at his residence.
The businessmen deny the charges. It is noted that a total of six individuals are currently in custody in relation to the firearm discharge, including a 48-year-old alleged to be the leader of the group. According to evidence presented in court, the criminal group demanded money for “protection” from a businessman, threatened him with a knife, and carried out a shooting attack when he refused to pay.
