Η Μπιενάλε Λάρνακας 2025 ξεκινά με μια δυναμική και γεμάτη εβδομάδα εκδηλώσεων

Με τα έργα τέχνης εγκατεστημένα στους εκθεσιακούς χώρους, παραστάσεις έτοιμες να ξεδιπλωθούν και ένα κύμα δημιουργικής ενέργειας να διαπερνά την πόλη, η Μπιενάλε Λάρνακας 2025 ανοίγει επίσημα αυτή την εβδομάδα. Ένα πλούσιο πρόγραμμα έχει προετοιμαστεί με σχεδόν τις διπλάσιες δραστηριότητες από την περσινή έκδοση.
Κατά την διάρκεια της πρώτη εβδομάδας, 115 έργα τέχνης, επτά παράλληλες εκδηλώσεις και τρεις παραστάσεις που αποτελούν μέρος της κύριας έκθεσης καλούν το κοινό να εξερευνήσει τις συνδέσεις, τις αναμνήσεις και τα μονοπάτια που διαμορφώνουν το κοινό μας τοπίο.

Επίσημη Τελετή Έναρξης της Μπιενάλε Λάρνακας 2025
Τετάρτη, 15 Οκτωβρίου, 19:30, Δημοτική Πινακοθήκη Λάρνακας.
Η επίσημη τελετή έναρξης της κύριας έκθεσης θα πραγματοποιηθεί στις 19:30 στη Δημοτική
Πινακοθήκη Λάρνακας. Την έκθεση επιμελείται η Sana López Abellán και παρουσιάζει έργα που
επιλέχθηκαν μέσω του ανοικτού καλέσματος, σηματοδοτώντας τη μεγαλύτερη συμμετοχή καλλιτεχνών στην ιστορία της Μπιενάλε.
Όλοι οι εκθεσιακοί χώροι της πόλης —συμπεριλαμβανομένων του Μουσείου Πιερίδη, του Κάστρου της Λάρνακας, της Αποθήκη79, της Δημοτικής Αγοράς Λάρνακας και της Common Ground Gallery— θα παραμείνουν ανοιχτοί έως τις 21:00 για το κοινό.
Στην τελετή θα διατίθεται ο έντυπος χάρτης της Μπιενάλε Λάρνακας 2025, με όλες τις πληροφορίες για εκδηλώσεις, εργαστήρια, εγκαταστάσεις, συμμετοχικά δρώμενα και παραστάσεις που θα πραγματοποιηθούν τους επόμενους δύο μήνες.
Πέμπτη, 16 Οκτωβρίου
Τρία έργα της κύριας έκθεσης ξεπερνούν τα όρια των εκθεσιακών χώρων και μεταφέρονται στους δρόμους της Λάρνακας. Τα «22 Stops», «Togetherness – Resonances of Expression» και «Unspoken Messages» είναι παραστάσεις που θα λάβουν χώρα σε δημόσιους χώρους και τα οποία ανταποκρίνονται στη φετινή θεματική«Ακολουθώντας Ίχνη και Γραμμές». Θα παρουσιαστούν στο κοινό στις 16 Οκτωβρίου, θα καταγραφούν και τα βίντεο τους θα προβληθούν στη Δημοτική Πινακοθήκη Λάρνακας, ενταγμένα στην κύρια έκθεση.
22 Stops
16:00 – 18:00, διάφορες τοποθεσίες στο κέντρο της Λάρνακας, ελεύθερη είσοδος
Η εικαστικός Κατερίνα Δρακοπούλου προσκαλεί το κοινό σε μια σιωπηλή περιπατητική εμπειρία σε διάφορα σημεία της πόλης. Κάθε στάση σηματοδοτείται με κιμωλία, ένα προσωρινό ίχνος παρουσίας και απουσίας, καθοδηγώντας το κοινό στο σημείο όπου η δράση μπορεί να βιωθεί βαθύτερα. Οι συμμετέχοντες μπορούν να παραμείνουν σε κάθε στάση όσο επιθυμούν.

Unspoken Messages

Η καλλιτέχνης Liv Ingeborg Ottersen δημιουργεί μια διαδραστική εγκατάσταση με λεπτές λωρίδες χρωματιστού τούλι, καλώντας τους περαστικούς να δέσουν επάνω τους τα δικά τους γραπτά μηνύματα σε χαρτί, τα οποία θα συνεχίσουν να προστίθενται καθ’ όλη τη διάρκεια της Μπιενάλε. Το κοινό θα μπορεί να γνωρίσει την Liv Ingeborg Ottersen στις 16 Οκτωβρίου, να παρακολουθήσει τα υπόλοιπα public performances στην Πλατεία Ζουχούρι, ή να επισκεφθεί την εγκατάσταση οποιαδήποτε άλλη ημέρα της Μπιενάλε.

Togetherness – Resonances of Expression

Η διαδραστική εγκατάσταση-περφόρμανς του Filippo Gregoretti μετατρέπει τον λόγο σε ζωντανή μουσική και οπτική σύνθεση, χρησιμοποιώντας γλωσσική ανάλυση, AI, ηχητική επεξεργασία και προβολές. Το κοινό μπορεί να συμμετέχει υποβάλλοντας φράσεις μέσω συσκευών, οι οποίες ερμηνεύονται σε πραγματικό χρόνο, συν-δημιουργώντας απρόβλεπτες, εξελισσόμενες συμφωνίες μαζί με τον αλγοριθμικό φορέα και τον καλλιτέχνη μουσικό.

Ιστορίες και Κυανοτυπίες | Εργαστήρι

Το εργαστήριο Ιστορίες και Κυανοτυπίες συνδυάζει την προσωπική γραφή (journaling) με την ιστορική φωτογραφική μέθοδο της κυανοτυπίας και καλεί τους συμμετέχοντες να συναντήσουν ξανά τον παιδικό τους εαυτό. Με εισηγήτρια την The.Curious.Curly, οι συμμετέχοντες θα εξερευνήσουν αναμνήσεις και συναισθήματα μέσα από καθοδηγούμενες γραπτές ασκήσεις και θα δημιουργήσουν τα δικά τους έργα κυανοτυπίας χρησιμοποιώντας προσωπικές φωτογραφίες. Θα ακολουθήσει εργαστήρι στα ελληνικά την 1 η Νοεμβρίου.

Curator’s Walk | Εμπειρία
17:00 – 18:00, Πιαλέ Πασά (σημείο εκκίνησης κατόπιν εγγραφής), στα αγγλικά, δωρεάν συμμετοχή Η επιμελήτρια της Μπιενάλε, Sana López Abellán, καθοδηγεί το κοινό σε μια περιπατητή δράση στους δρόμους και το παραλιακό μέτωπο της Λάρνακας, όπου η πόλη μετατρέπεται σε σκηνικό. Εμπνευσμένη από τη θεωρία του David Le Breton, η εμπειρία προσεγγίζει την πόλη ως ζωντανό σώμα μνήμης και κίνησης, ξετυλίγοντας τα πλαίσια της φετινής θεματικής «Ακολουθόντας Ίχνη και Γραμμές».

The Lines and Traces of Identity | Εργαστήρι

Το Once in a Blue Moon παρουσιάζει ένα εργαστήριο θεατρικής τέχνης από δύο διακεκριμένους
καλλιτέχνες από το Μόντρεαλ, Καναδά, την Anana Rydvald και τον Zach Fraser.
Το εργαστήρι εστιάζει στη χρήση της μάσκας ως θεατρικό εργαλείο, με σκοπό την απελευθέρωση της σωματικής έκφρασης και την ανάπτυξη αυθεντικών, πολυεπίπεδων χαρακτήρων. Μέσα από τεχνικές μίμησης και αυτοσχεδιασμού, οι συμμετέχοντες καλούνται να εξερευνήσουν τη σωματική γλώσσα — κίνηση, ρυθμό, χειρονομίες — αφήνοντας πίσω την αυτοσυνείδηση. Δεν απαιτείται προηγούμενη εμπειρία.
Οι συμμετέχοντες θα λάβουν μία δωρεάν πρόσκληση για την παράσταση The Sighlence of Sky (23–24 Οκτωβρίου, Κάστρο Λάρνακας).

Ένα έργο σύγχρονου χορού της ομάδας Aphelion Dance Company, σε χορογραφία της Rozmarie Pantzi Koulia, κάνει πρεμιέρα στην Κύπρο. Το έργο επαναπροσεγγίζει τον μύθο της Αριάδνης και του Μινώταυρου, συνδέοντας τον αρχαίο μύθο με σύγχρονα ερωτήματα ταυτότητας και μεταμόρφωσης.

Larnaca Biennale 2025 launches with a packed Opening Week Week 1: October 15 th – 19th
With artworks installed, performances ready to unfold and a wave of creative energy sweeping through the region, Larnaca Biennale 2025 officially opens this week. Under the theme ‘Along Lines and Traces’, Cyprus’ biggest art celebration returns for its fourth edition.
In week one, 115 artworks, seven parallel events and three performances part of the main exhibition invite visitors to explore connections, memories and pathways that shape our shared landscape. It’s official – Larnaca Biennale 2025 is here!
Grand Opening of Larnaca Biennale 2025
Wednesday, October 15 th , 19:30, Larnaca Municipal Art Gallery
The official opening ceremony of the main exhibition takes place at 19:30 at the Larnaca Municipal Art Gallery. Curated by Sana López Abellán, the exhibition unveils artworks selected via the international open call and introduces the Biennale’s largest-ever roster of participants.
All exhibition venues in the city —including the Pierides Museum, Larnaca Castle, Apothiki79, Larnaca Municipal Market, and Common Ground Gallery—will remain open until 21:00 for visitors to explore on this day.
Available at the opening will be the Larnaca Biennale 2025 physical map with details on all the events, workshops, installations, participatory happenings and performances for the next two months.
Thursday, October 16 th
Part of the main exhibition are three art pieces which go beyond the gallery’s walls and reach the streets of Larnaca. ’22 Stops’, ‘Togetherness – Resonances of Expression’ and ‘Unspoken Messages’ are public performances that respond to the theme of the Open Call. They will be presented to the public on October 16 th , documented live and their recordings will be screened at Larnaca Municipality Gallery, joining the rest of the main exhibition’s artworks.

16:00 – 18:00, Various locations in central Larnaca, free
Artist Katerina Drakopoulou invites the audience to walk in silence to various stop in the city. Each stop is marked in chalk, a temporary sign of presence and absence, guiding the audience to stand where the unfolding action can be most deeply felt. Participants are free to stay as long as they wish during the walk.

Unspoken Messages
17:30 – 20:00, Zouhouri Square, free
This performance-installation by Liv Ingeborg Ottersen begins with delicate strips of coloured tulle, each threaded with fine cords, inviting passers-by to attach their personal messages, fold them into sealed notes and fast them to the hanging threads. The artwork will continue developing throughout the duration of the Biennale. The artist will be live on site on the afternoon of October 16 th alongside with the other public performances.

Togetherness – Resonances of Expression

Togetherness is an interactive performance-installation by Filippo Gregoretti which converts digital
speech into generative art through linguistic analysis, sound processing, and visuals. It transforms text into evolving musical and visual compositions inspired by behavioural theories from Nobel laureate Daniel Kahnem. Audiences can participate by submitting phrases via devices which will be interpreted in real-time, co-creating unpredictable, evolving symphonies alongside the algorithmic entity and the human musician.

Friday, October 17 th
Cyanotype Tales | Workshop
10:00 – 14:00, Youth Makerspace Larnaka, English, free
Cyanotype Tales blends personal journaling and storytelling with the historic photographic process of cyanotype printing. Presented and facilitated by The.Curious.Curly, this creative workshop invites
participants to trace and remember the stories, emotions and dreams of their younger selves through guided writing prompts and by making original cyanotype prints using a personal photo that participants will bring. Two workshops will take place, first on Friday, October 17 th, in English and then on Saturday,
November 1 st, in Greek.

Curator’s Walk | Experience

The curator of Larnaca Biennale 2025, Sana López Abellán, takes guests on a walk through the streets and shoreline of Larnaca, where the city itself becomes both setting and subject, unravelling the 2025 theme. Inspired by David Le Breton’s notion of walking as a way of inscribing meaning in the world, the walk invites participants to encounter Larnaca not as a backdrop but as a living body of memory and movement and rather than a conventional guided tour, the walk becomes a shared choreography of attention.
Starting Point: Piale Pasa (exact starting point upon registration)
End Point: Larnaca Historic Archives Museum
At the conclusion of the walk, a special guest talk (+40 min) is offered to those who wish to stay further.

Saturday, October 18th
The Art of Together | Workshop
09:00 – 11:00, various Locations in central Larnaca, English & Greek, free
An innovative, creative educational program for children aged 6 to 11 will unfold across six consecutive Saturdays on the themes of Territory, Time, Text, Tune, Touch and Textile. Combining art with play, imagination, and co-creation, it begins on October 18 th at the Larnaca Historic Archive Museum, facilitated by Theodora Andreou.
Through theatrical play, movement, improvisation, sound, storytelling, and experimentation, children will develop observation, free expression, creativity, imagination, and collaboration and present their outcomes at a collective artistic installation at the Municipal Market of Larnaka.

Once in a Blue Moon presents an emotive masked play workshop by the Canadian powerhouse duo, Anana Rydvald and Zach Fraser. This one-of-a-kind workshop introduces participants to the
transformative art of masked performance, where movement and presence speak louder than words.
Open to all levels and backgrounds, no prior theatre experience is required.

Returning for the second time is the Artist Quarter in Piale Pasha mini festival on October 18 and 19, organised by Artion Cultural Association. Music, art, guided tours, performances, and street food will take over the neighbourhood.
Swinging their doors open to welcome visitors into their workspaces and art processes are the studios of Fotos Dimitriou, Andreas Kalli, Efthimios Symeou, Rona Mikelidou and Christiana Charalambous. Free, walking tours will be offered by the Larnaka Tourism Board throughout the weekend, setting off from the Medieval Castle at 16:30 (in Greek) and at 16:45 (in English) and conclude at the artists’ open studios in Mesogeios Park, on Piale Pasha Street. Live music by Mark Popov and Constantinos Lemesios
will set the mood for the evening.

A contemporary dance production will mark its Cyprus debut this month, choreographed by Rozmarie Pantzi Koulia and performed by the Aphelion Dance Company. The piece reimagines the myth of Ariadne and the Minotaur through a contemporary, compelling lens, exploring themes of identity, memory, and transformation, connecting ancient myth with the challenges of the modern world.

Ichnilat(r)is | Performance

The participatory performance Ichnilat(r)is by Ex-Piercing Arts transforms the underground parking lot of an under-construction hotel into a place of search, conflict and revelation. The performance composes an interactive journey through the triad of movement, speech, and space, where experience invites the viewer to become a participant.

The second and final day of AQPP Festival continues the free walking tours and studio visits and ends the week with live music by Vasilis Vasiliou, Araxe je akou, Dabi, DJ Pueblo Franco, performance previews of The Sighlence of Sky and Ichnilat(r)is and visual previews of Weaving Unity , accompanied by drinks from Boozy Wheels and food from Smash Bites.
More parallel events and activities will follow, and the agenda will be announced every week. Please join us in celebrating the endavours of the participating artists, turning Larnaca into a growing cultural hub!
About Larnaca Biennale:
Larnaca Biennale is the only Arts Biennale in Cyprus and is organized in the city and province of Larnaca every two years by the registered non-profit Cultural Association ARTION. The event has been in effect since 2018, lasts a month and a half and aims to promote and highlight the arts and culture both locally and internationally. As the largest international artistic organization in Cyprus, it attracts a significant number of visitors (over 60,000) with the participation of creators and collaborators from Cyprus and abroad.
