Διαμαρτυρία για τη συνεχιζόμενη καθυστέρηση στην ανακοίνωση των νέων πολεοδομικών ζωνών εντός των Βρετανικών Βάσεων Δεκέλειας πραγματοποίησε χθες, Σάββατο 31 Ιανουαρίου 2026, το Σύμπλεγμα Υπηρεσιών Κοινοτήτων Δεκέλειας, στο οποίο συμμετέχουν τα Κοινοτικά Συμβούλια Ξυλοφάγου, Ξυλοτύμβου και Ορμήδειας.
Την εκδήλωση διαμαρτυρίας τίμησαν με την παρουσία τους βουλευτές Λάρνακας, ο Πρόεδρος του ΕΟΑΛ, καθώς και οι κοινοτάρχες της περιοχής, στέλνοντας σαφές μήνυμα ενότητας και στήριξης προς τις επηρεαζόμενες κοινότητες.
Ιδιαίτερη αίσθηση προκάλεσε η παρέμβαση του Κοινοτάρχη Ορμήδειας, κ. Αντώνη Φώτη, ο οποίος με λόγο αιχμηρό και ξεκάθαρο απηύθυνε τελεσίγραφο προς κάθε κατεύθυνση, δηλώνοντας χαρακτηριστικά:
«Αν δεν πάρουμε θετικές απαντήσεις από τις Βάσεις, θα ζητήσω από όλους τους κατοίκους ανυπακοή. Το ίδιο, είμαι βέβαιος, θα πράξουν και οι άλλες κοινότητες. Ανυπακοή και μη αναγνώριση. Αυτό θέλω να αναφέρω».
Η δήλωση του κ. Φώτη καταχειροκροτήθηκε από τους παρευρισκόμενους και προκάλεσε έντονο προβληματισμό, καθώς πρόκειται για την πρώτη φορά που Κύπριος εκλεγμένος αξιωματούχος θέτει δημόσια το ενδεχόμενο οργανωμένης ανυπακοής απέναντι στις Βρετανικές Βάσεις.
Την πλήρη στήριξη του Κοινοτικού Συμβουλίου Ορμήδειας στον Κοινοτάρχη τους, επιβεβαίωσε, μιλώντας στο SkalaTimes, ο αναπληρωτής κοινοτάρχης κ. Δημήτρης Δημητρίου, τονίζοντας: «Ο κοινοτάρχης μας, κ. Φώτη, έχει τη στήριξη ολόκληρου του Κοινοτικού Συμβουλίου σε αυτή την απόφαση. Ναι, θα τολμήσουμε να προχωρήσουμε ακόμη και σε ακραία μέτρα, αν δεν λάβουμε τις κατάλληλες απαντήσεις».
Η διαμαρτυρία ανέδειξε την αυξανόμενη αγανάκτηση των τοπικών κοινωνιών και κατέστησε σαφές πως η υπομονή των κοινοτήτων εξαντλείται, με τις επόμενες κινήσεις να προμηνύονται καθοριστικές.
Ultimatum to the British Bases by Ormideia Community Leader Antonis Foti – Civil Disobedience on the Table

A protest over the ongoing delay in the announcement of new town planning zones within the British Bases of Dhekelia was held yesterday, Saturday, January 31, 2026, by the Dhekelia Communities Services Cluster, which comprises the Community Councils of Xylofagou, Xylotymvou and Ormideia.
The protest was attended by Members of Parliament from Larnaca, the President of the Larnaca District Local Government Organisation (EOAL), as well as local community leaders, sending a clear message of unity and support to the affected communities.
Particular attention was drawn by the intervention of the Community Leader of Ormideia, Mr Antonis Foti, who delivered a firm and unequivocal ultimatum in all directions, stating emphatically:
“If we do not receive positive responses from the Bases, I will call on all residents to engage in civil disobedience. I am certain that the other communities will do the same. Civil disobedience and non-recognition. This is what I wish to make clear.”
Mr Foti’s statement was met with loud applause from those present and sparked intense reflection, as this marks the first time a Cypriot elected official has publicly raised the prospect of organised civil disobedience against the British Bases.
Speaking to SkalaTimes, the Deputy Community Leader of Ormideia, Mr Dimitris Dimitriou, confirmed the full support of the Ormideia Community Council for their leader, stating:
“Our Community Leader, Mr Foti, has the full backing of the entire Community Council in this decision. Yes, we are prepared to move forward even with extreme measures if we do not receive the appropriate responses.”
The protest highlighted the growing frustration of local communities and made it clear that their patience is wearing thin, with the next steps expected to be decisive.
