Τα μέλη του συγκροτήματος εξέδωσαν προσωπικές δηλώσεις καταδικάζοντας τις «διαβολικές» ενέργειες της Χαμάς, καθώς και τον Μπενιαμίν Νετανιάχου, ο οποίος, όπως είπαν, αξίζει «την κατηγορηματική και απερίφραστη καταδίκη μας».
Οι Ιρλανδοί U2 πήραν δημόσια θέση για την κατάσταση στη Λωρίδα της Γάζας, με τον Bono να δηλώνει ότι οι ενέργειες του Μπενιαμίν Νετανιάχου «μοιάζουν πλέον με αχαρτογράφητα νερά».
Σε ανάρτηση στο Instagram που δημοσιεύθηκε χθες, τα τέσσερα μέλη του ροκ συγκροτήματος – Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton και Larry Mullen Jr. – έγραψαν προσωπικές τοποθετήσεις για τις ενέργειες του Ισραήλ στη Γάζα.
Μετά την καταδίκη των «διαβολικών» ενεργειών της Χαμάς, ο Bono στράφηκε προς την ισραηλινή κυβέρνηση, η οποία, όπως είπε, «σήμερα αξίζει την κατηγορηματική και απερίφραστη καταδίκη μας».
«Δεν υπάρχει καμία δικαιολογία για τη βαρβαρότητα που [ο Νετανιάχου] και η ακροδεξιά του κυβέρνηση έχουν επιβάλει στον παλαιστινιακό λαό… στη Γάζα… στη Δυτική Όχθη. Και όχι μόνο μετά τις 7 Οκτωβρίου, αλλά και πολύ πριν… αν και το επίπεδο ανηθικότητας και ανομίας που βλέπουμε τώρα μοιάζει με αχαρτογράφητη περιοχή».
Συνέχισε: «Και τώρα ο Νετανιάχου ανακοινώνει στρατιωτική κατάληψη της Πόλης της Γάζας… κάτι που οι περισσότεροι ενημερωμένοι αναλυτές κατανοούν ως ευφημισμό για τον εποικισμό της Γάζας». Εδώ αναφέρεται στην ανακοίνωση της ισραηλινής κυβέρνησης το Σάββατο 9 Αυγούστου, σύμφωνα με την οποία εγκρίθηκε μια χερσαία επιχείρηση που θα στοχεύει στην πλήρη κατάληψη της Πόλης της Γάζας.

Όλοι εδώ και καιρό φρίττουν με όσα εκτυλίσσονται στη Γάζα – όμως ο αποκλεισμός της ανθρωπιστικής βοήθειας και τώρα τα σχέδια για στρατιωτική κατάληψη της Πόλης της Γάζας έχουν οδηγήσει τη σύγκρουση σε αχαρτογράφητα νερά. Δεν είμαστε ειδικοί στην πολιτική της περιοχής, αλλά θέλουμε το κοινό μας να γνωρίζει τη θέση του καθενός μας.
«Ξέρουμε ότι ακολουθεί η υπόλοιπη Λωρίδα της Γάζας… και η Δυτική Όχθη», πρόσθεσε ο Bono. «Σε ποιον αιώνα βρισκόμαστε; Δεν έχει τελειώσει ο κόσμος με αυτήν τη μακρινή, μακρινή δεξιά σκέψη; Ξέρουμε πού καταλήγει… παγκόσμιος πόλεμος… χιλιασμός».
Συνέχισε: «Ως κάποιος που πίστευε από παλιά στο δικαίωμα του Ισραήλ να υπάρχει και υποστήριζε μια λύση δύο κρατών, θέλω να ξεκαθαρίσω σε όποιον ενδιαφέρεται να ακούσει την καταδίκη του συγκροτήματός μας για τις ανήθικες ενέργειες του Νετανιάχου και να ενωθώ με όλους όσοι έχουν ζητήσει παύση των εχθροπραξιών και από τις δύο πλευρές».
Ο μπασίστας των U2, Adam Clayton, έγραψε ότι «η διατήρηση της ζωής των αμάχων είναι επιλογή σε αυτόν τον πόλεμο», ενώ ο ντράμερ Larry Mullen Jr. δήλωσε: «Είναι δύσκολο να καταλάβει κανείς πώς οποιαδήποτε πολιτισμένη κοινωνία μπορεί να πιστεύει ότι η λιμοκτονία παιδιών θα προωθήσει κάποιον σκοπό και θα δικαιολογηθεί ως αποδεκτή απάντηση σε μια άλλη φρίκη». Πρόσθεσε ότι «η λιμοκτονία αθώων αμάχων ως όπλο πολέμου είναι απάνθρωπη και εγκληματική».

“We know where this ends… world war”: U2 take a stand on the situation in Gaza
The members of the band issued personal statements condemning the “diabolical” actions of Hamas, as well as Benjamin Netanyahu, who, they said, deserves “our categorical and unequivocal condemnation.”
The Irish band U2 took a public stand on the situation in the Gaza Strip, with Bono stating that Benjamin Netanyahu’s actions “now seem like uncharted waters.”
In an Instagram post published yesterday, the four rock band members – Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr. – wrote personal statements about Israel’s actions in Gaza.
After condemning Hamas’ “diabolical” actions, Bono turned to the Israeli government, which, he said, “today deserves our categorical and unequivocal condemnation.”
“There is no excuse for the barbarity that [Netanyahu] and his far-right government have inflicted on the Palestinian people… in Gaza… in the West Bank. And not only after October 7, but long before… although the level of immorality and lawlessness we are seeing now feels like uncharted territory.”
He continued: “And now Netanyahu announces a military takeover of Gaza City… something most well-informed analysts understand as a euphemism for the settlement of Gaza.” Here, he refers to the Israeli government’s announcement on Saturday, August 9, stating that it had approved a ground operation aimed at the complete takeover of Gaza City.

Bono added: “We know the rest of the Gaza Strip will follow… and the West Bank. What century are we in? Hasn’t the world had enough of this far, far right thinking? We know where this ends… world war… millenarianism.”
He continued: “As someone who has long believed in Israel’s right to exist and supported a two-state solution, I want to make clear to anyone who cares to listen our band’s condemnation of Netanyahu’s immoral actions and to join with all those who have called for a cessation of hostilities on both sides.”
U2’s bassist, Adam Clayton, wrote that “the preservation of civilian life is a choice in this war,” while drummer Larry Mullen Jr. stated: “It is difficult to understand how any civilized society can believe that starving children will further any cause and be justified as an acceptable response to another horror.” He added that “the starvation of innocent civilians as a weapon of war is inhumane and criminal.”
