Ένα ακόμη κομμάτι στο πολύπλοκο και αμφιλεγόμενο παζλ του sequel για το λιμάνι και τη μαρίνα Λάρνακας ήρθε στο φως κατά τη χθεσινή συνεδρία της Επιτροπής Ανάπτυξης Λάρνακας.
Κατά τη διάρκεια της συνεδρίας, μέλος της επιτροπής έθεσε στον Δήμαρχο Λάρνακας Ανδρέα Βύρα ένα ερώτημα που προκαλεί σοβαρά πολιτικά και ουσιαστικά ερωτήματα:
Λίγο πριν τον τερματισμό της σύμβασης του έργου, είχε δηλώσει ο Υπουργός Μεταφορών Αλέξης Βαφεάδης προς τον Δήμαρχο και τον επενδυτή ότι «αν προχωρήσω σε τερματισμό, μην ανησυχείτε – θα μπορώ να επανέλθω και να τον ανακαλέσω;»
Η απάντηση του Ανδρέα Βύρα ήταν ξεκάθαρη: Ναι.
Με απλά λόγια, επιβεβαιώνεται ότι ο αρμόδιος Υπουργός προχώρησε στον τερματισμό του μεγαλύτερου αναπτυξιακού έργου της Λάρνακας, ενός έργου που εκτιμάται ότι θα απέφερε περίπου 125 εκατομμύρια ευρώ ετήσιο όφελος για την κυπριακή οικονομία, ενώ – σύμφωνα με όσα ο ίδιος φέρεται να διαβεβαίωνε – διατηρούσε τη δυνατότητα υπαναχώρησης.
Και όμως.
Εδώ και σχεδόν 20 μήνες, επενδυτής – εκ των μετόχων της KITION – ζητά να εξεταστεί η πρόταση και η εισήγησή του για επαναφορά και επανεκκίνηση του έργου. Αντί απαντήσεων, καταγγέλλεται ότι λαμβάνει σιωπή. Μια σιωπή που, όπως χαρακτηριστικά περιγράφεται, θυμίζει «αναπάντητες κλήσεις παντού».
Το ερώτημα πλέον δεν είναι μόνο τι έγινε τότε.
Το ερώτημα είναι γιατί δεν γίνεται τίποτα τώρα.
The Minister Who “Could Have Reversed It”… But Never Did

Another piece of the complex and controversial puzzle surrounding the sequel of the Larnaca port and marina project came to light during yesterday’s session of the Larnaca Development Committee.
During the meeting, a committee member posed a question to Larnaca Mayor Andreas Vyras that raises serious political and substantive concerns:
Shortly before terminating the project’s contract, had Minister of Transport Alexis Vafeades stated to both the Mayor and the investor that “if I proceed with termination, do not worry — I will be able to return and revoke the termination?”
Andreas Vyras’ response was clear: Yes.
In simple terms, it is confirmed that the competent Minister proceeded with terminating the largest development project in Larnaca -a project estimated to have generated approximately €125 million in annual benefits for the Cypriot economy -while, according to what he is said to have assured, maintaining the ability to reverse that decision.
And yet.
For nearly 20 months, an investor — one of the shareholders of KITION — has been requesting that his proposal and submission to resume and relaunch the project be examined. Instead of receiving answers, it is alleged that he is met with silence. A silence that, as it is characteristically described, resembles “unanswered calls everywhere.”
The question now is not only what happened then.
The question is why nothing is happening now.
