Η εκπαιδευτικός και συγγραφέας, Έλενα Περικλέους, αναλαμβάνει το χαρτοφυλάκιο του Γραφείου της Επιτρόπου Προστασίας των Δικαιωμάτων του Παιδιού, μετά την ολοκλήρωση της θητείας της Δέσπως Μιχαηλίδου.
Η νέα Επίτροπος είναι εκπαιδευτικός και συγκεκριμένα, διευθύντρια Δημοτικής Εκπαίδευσης, η οποία είναι αποσπασμένη τώρα στο υφυπουργείο Πολιτισμού.
Σημειώνεται ότι η κ. Περικλέους έχει πλούσιο συγγραφικό έργο κυρίως στην παιδική λογοτεχνία καθώς έχει συγγράψει κι εκδώσει αρκετά παιδικά βιβλία.
Στις πρώτες της δηλώσεις έκανε λόγο για την ευθύνη υπεράσπισης των παιδιών και των δικαιωμάτων τους.
Συγκεκριμένα, η νέα Επίτροπος δήλωσε: «Αναλαμβάνω με βαθιά ευγνωμοσύνη την ευθύνη να υπερασπιστώ το παιδί. Κάθε δράση και παρέμβασή μου θα έχει στο επίκεντρο το δικαίωμα του να ζει, να εκφράζεται και να ονειρεύεται ελεύθερα. Γιατί “αν γλιτώσει το παιδί υπάρχει ελπίδα».
Ποια είναι η Έλενα Περικλέους
Η κ. Έλενα Περικλέους γεννήθηκε στην κατεχόμενη Πεντάγυια το 1970. Είναι εκπαιδευτικός, Συντονίστρια Πολιτιστικής Παιδείας στο Υφυπουργείο Πολιτισμού και Πρόεδρος του Κυπριακού Συνδέσμου Παιδικού και Νεανικού Βιβλίου (IBBY Cyprus).
Σπούδασε Παιδαγωγικά και κατέχει Μεταπτυχιακό Δίπλωμα στην Περιβαλλοντική Εκπαίδευση (MSc in Environmental and Development Education). Υπηρέτησε την εκπαίδευση για 35 χρόνια, τα τελευταία 15 από τη θέση της Διευθύντριας Σχολείων Δημοτικής Εκπαίδευσης, συμβάλλοντας ενεργά στη διαμόρφωση εκπαιδευτικών πολιτικών και δράσεων με επίκεντρο το παιδί.
Εργάζεται στο Υφυπουργείο Πολιτισμού ως συντονίστρια των προγραμμάτων «Σχολεία Πρεσβευτές Πολιτισμού – Παιδιά Πρεσβευτές Πολιτισμού» και «Φιλαναγνωσίας Διαδρομές: Ανακαλύπτω Βιβλία Σωσίβια», που στοχεύουν στην καλλιέργεια πολιτιστικής συνείδησης, δημιουργικότητας και φιλαναγνωσίας στα παιδιά και στους νέους.
Έχει συγγράψει περισσότερα από είκοσι πέντε βιβλία για παιδιά, εφήβους και ενήλικες. Πολλά από τα έργα της έχουν τιμηθεί με Κρατικά Βραβεία Λογοτεχνίας, Βραβεία από τη Γυναικεία Λογοτεχνική Συντροφιά, και την Πανελλήνια Ένωση Λογοτεχνών.

Elena Perikleous Appointed New Commissioner for the Protection of Children’s Rights – “I Accept the Responsibility to Defend the Child with Deep Gratitude”
Educator and author Elena Perikleous has assumed the portfolio of the Office of the Commissioner for the Protection of Children’s Rights, following the completion of Despo Michailidou’s term.
The new Commissioner is an educator, specifically a Director of Primary Education, currently seconded to the Deputy Ministry of Culture.
It is noted that Ms. Perikleous has a rich body of work, mainly in children’s literature, having authored and published several children’s books.
In her first statements, she spoke about the responsibility of defending children and their rights.
Specifically, the new Commissioner stated: “I accept with deep gratitude the responsibility to defend the child. Every action and intervention of mine will focus on the child’s right to live, to express themselves, and to dream freely. Because ‘if the child is saved, there is hope.’”
Who is Elena Perikleous
Ms. Elena Perikleous was born in occupied Pentagia in 1970. She is an educator, Cultural Education Coordinator at the Deputy Ministry of Culture, and President of the Cyprus Section of the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY Cyprus).
She studied Education and holds a Master’s Degree in Environmental and Development Education (MSc in Environmental and Development Education). She has served in education for 35 years, the last 15 as Director of Primary Schools, actively contributing to the development of educational policies and initiatives focused on children.
She works at the Deputy Ministry of Culture as coordinator of the programs “Schools as Ambassadors of Culture – Children as Ambassadors of Culture” and “Reading Routes: Discovering Lifesaving Books”, which aim to cultivate cultural awareness, creativity, and a love of reading among children and young people.
She has authored more than twenty-five books for children, teenagers, and adults. Many of her works have been honored with State Literature Awards, awards from the Women’s Literary Society, and the Panhellenic Union of Writers.
