Το γραφείο «ιεραρχεί» τις υποθέσεις, δίνοντας προτεραίοτητα στα περιστατικά βίας της οικογένειας.
Λόγω σοβαρής υποστελέχωσης του Γραφείου της, το οποίο στελεχώνεται μόνο με τρεις λειτουργούς, το Γραφείο της Επιτρόπου Προστασίας Δικαιωμάτων του Παιδιού Δέσπως Μιχαηλίδου δεν έχει την ικανότητα να ανταποκριθεί εγκαίρως στα παράπονα που λαμβάνει καθημερινά, όπως αναφέρει σε ανακοίνωσή της, εκφράζοντας παράλληλα την λύπη της και διαβεβαιώνοντας ότι καταβάλλονται προσπάθειες για την άμεση ενίσχυση του ανθρώπινου δυναμικού, ώστε να επανέλθει η εύρυθμη λειτουργία το συντομότερο δυνατόν.
Μιλώντας στον Πολίτη 107,6 και 97,6 και στην εκπομπή «Δεύτερη Ματιά», η Επίτροπος διευκρίνισε ότι «δεν είναι η πρώτη φορά που θιγουμε το θέμα», ενώ πρόσθεσε πως έχει φτάσει μέχρι τη Βουλή και τον Πρόεδρο.
Τόνισε πως «υποστελέχωση σημαίνει μη προστασία του παιδιού, ενώ πλήττεται και η ανεξαρτησία του θεσμού».
Παράλληλα, περιέργαψε τα είδη υποθέσεων που απασχολούν το γραφείο τους, αναφέροντας πως ο τομέας της εκπαίδευσης καταλαβάνει τον μεγαλύτερο όγκο υποθέσεων, όμως το γραφείο «ιεραρχεί» τις υποθέσεις, δίνοντας προτεραίοτητα στα περιστατικά βίας της οικογένειας.

The office “prioritizes” cases, giving precedence to incidents of domestic violence.
Due to serious understaffing—currently consisting of only three officers—the Office of the Commissioner for the Protection of Children’s Rights, Despo Michaelidou, is unable to respond promptly to the complaints it receives daily, as stated in an official announcement. The Commissioner expresses her regret over the situation while assuring that efforts are being made to immediately strengthen the office’s human resources so that its smooth operation can be restored as soon as possible.
Speaking to Politis 107.6 and 97.6 on the program “Second Glance”, the Commissioner clarified that “this is not the first time the issue has been raised,” adding that it has even reached the House of Representatives and the President.
She emphasized that “understaffing means lack of child protection, and it also affects the independence of the institution.”
She also described the types of cases her office handles, noting that the field of education accounts for the largest volume of cases. However, the office “prioritizes” the cases, giving precedence to incidents of domestic violence.
