Σφοδρές αντιδράσεις προκάλεσε δημόσια τοποθέτηση του Φειδίας Παναγιώτου, με αφορμή σχόλιά του γύρω από τη νοητική αναπηρία.
Το περιστατικό σχολιάστηκε έντονα στην εκπομπή Buongiorno, με τη Φαίη Σκορδά και τον Ανδρέας Μικρούτσικος να εκφράζουν την οργή τους τόσο για το περιεχόμενο των δηλώσεων όσο και για τη συνολική στάση του ευρωβουλευτή κατά τη διάρκεια της συνέντευξης.
Ιδιαίτερη ενόχληση προκάλεσε, όπως τόνισαν, η έλλειψη στοιχειώδους ενσυναίσθησης, αλλά και η εικόνα του να τρώει μπροστά στον καλεσμένο του, σε μια συζήτηση που αφορούσε σοβαρά κοινωνικά ζητήματα.
«Μου έχει ανέβει το αίμα στο κεφάλι! Δεν έχει καμία γνώση, ούτε κοινωνικής φύσεως. Άσε το συναισθηματικό, που τρώει εκείνη την ώρα που μιλούν για κάτι σοβαρό και το παιδί εκεί προσπαθεί να σώσει τα πράγματα. Με βλέπετε σε αυτή την κατάσταση γιατί μου ήρθε ένα μήνυμα, για το παιδί που λένε, έβλεπε τη συνέντευξη μαζί με τη μητέρα του, και γύρισε και είπε στη μητέρα του “μαμά, είμαι τρελός εγώ”. Δεν είναι δυνατόν να είναι η πρώτη φορά που ακούς τι είναι Παραολυμπιονίκης και καλείς έναν Παραολυμπιονίκη για να συζητήσετε το θέμα, αλλά δεν ξέρεις τι είναι ο Παραολυμπιονίκης» ανέφερε σε έντονο ύφος η Φαίη Σκορδά.

Strong reactions were sparked by a public statement made by Fidias Panayiotou, following comments he made regarding intellectual disability.
The incident was heavily discussed on the TV show Buongiorno, with Fay Skorda and Andreas Mikroutsikos expressing their outrage both at the content of the statements and at the overall attitude of the MEP during the interview.
What caused particular irritation, as they emphasized, was the lack of basic empathy, as well as the image of him eating in front of his guest during a discussion that concerned serious social issues.
“My blood has rushed to my head! He has no knowledge whatsoever—not even of a social nature. Leave aside the emotional aspect: he’s eating at the very moment they are talking about something serious, and the young man there is trying to salvage the situation. You see me in this state because I received a message about the child they mentioned—he was watching the interview with his mother and turned to her and said, ‘Mom, am I crazy?’ It’s not possible for this to be the first time you hear what a Paralympian is, and you invite a Paralympian to discuss the issue, yet you don’t know what a Paralympian is,” Fay Skorda said in a heated tone.
