Το SkalaTimes δημοσιεύει σήμερα το άρθρο, αλλά και την επιστολή προς κάθε ενδιαφερόμενο και εμπλεκόμενο, της 16χρονης συνδημότισσάς μας, Ευγενίας Ashdjian, όπως έφτασε στο SkalaTimes από την 16χρονη.
Μια επιστολή που ΦΩΝΑΖΕΙ πως με τα ΔΙΚΑΙΩΜΑΤΑ των ΠΑΙΔΙΩΝ δεν έχει δικαίωμα να παίζει κανείς. Ούτε πολιτικός, ούτε αξιωματούχος, ούτε καν ο Πρόεδρος της χώρας.

Επιστολή Ευγενίας Ashdjian
Είμαι 16 χρονών. Δεν ανήκω σε κανένα πολιτικό κόμμα και δεν έχω πολιτικά συμφέροντα. Έχω όμως άποψη και φωνή, την οποία κάποιοι προσπαθούν να μου στερήσουν.
Η θητεία της Επιτρόπου για τα Δικαιώματα του Παιδιού λήγει και φημολογείται πως η θέση θα δοθεί σε άτομο που δεν καλύπτει τα ιδανικά κριτήρια για αυτόν τον θεσμό.
Θεσμό, διότι δεν είναι απλώς μια τιμητική θέση. Είναι ο άνθρωπος που μας εκπροσωπεί και νοιάζεται για τη γνώμη, τα θέλω και τα δικαιώματά μας.
Στη θέση αυτή πρέπει να είναι κάποιος που να νοιάζεται, να ακούει και να καταλαβαίνει το κάθε παιδί και τις δυσκολίες του.
Ως σύμβουλος της Επιτρόπου για τα Δικαιώματα του Παιδιού είχα την ευκαιρία να γνωρίσω καλά αυτόν τον θεσμό.
Πρόσφατα, τον Ιούνιο του 2025, ταξίδεψα στις Βρυξέλλες και συμμετείχα στο EU Child Participation Program, όπου αντάλλαξα γνώμες με παιδιά από όλη την Ευρώπη, παιδιά με διαφορετική κουλτούρα και νοοτροπία. Μέσα από αυτή την πλατφόρμα και την ανταλλαγή ιδεών, καταλήξαμε σε λύσεις για κρίσιμα θέματα που απασχολούν τα παιδιά, όπως η λεκτική και σωματική βία και η ρύπανση του περιβάλλοντος.
Μίλησα για τα δικαιώματά μας και τις ανησυχίες του κάθε εφήβου. Εγώ και ακόμη δύο συνομήλικοί μου, μέσα από αυτόν τον θεσμό, εκπροσωπήσαμε το κάθε παιδί της Κύπρου που προσπαθεί με οποιονδήποτε τρόπο να ακουστεί: είτε επειδή έχει αναπηρία, είτε επειδή δέχεται μπούλινγκ, είτε επειδή κάποιοι «ανώτεροι» προσπαθούν να του κλείσουν το στόμα.
Αυτό έγινε επειδή κάποιος πίστεψε στη φωνή μου… στη φωνή ΜΑΣ.
Αυτό που με προβληματίζει δεν είναι το ότι θα αλλάξει το πρόσωπο της Επιτρόπου, αλλά ο τρόπος που θα γίνει.
Ο νόμος της Επιτρόπου τονίζει πως η Επίτροπος πρέπει να επιλέγεται από τα παιδιά.
Οπότε, με βάση τον νόμο, η Επίτροπος πρέπει να επιλεχθεί από τις τρεις οργανωμένες ομάδες παιδιών που υπάρχουν στην Κύπρο: ΟΕΣ, ΠΣΕΜ και Κυπριακή Παιδοβουλή.
Η Επίτροπος είναι η φωνή μας.
Έχω ζήσει και ξέρω πως αυτή η φωνή μπορεί να φτάσει πολύ μακριά: από το γραφείο της Επιτρόπου, όπου συναντιόμαστε μηνιαία, μέχρι τις Βρυξέλλες και έως τα γραφεία όπου παίρνονται οι μεγάλες αποφάσεις.
Δεν ζητώ χάρη ούτε λύπηση.
Ζητώ σεβασμό προς τα δικαιώματά μου.
Γιατί ο θεσμός της Επιτρόπου δεν είναι για να κανονίζει φιλίες και συμφέροντα. Είναι η φωνή μου… είναι η φωνή ΜΑΣ.
SkalaTimes publishes today both the article and the letter addressed to every concerned and involved party, written by our 16-year-old fellow citizen, Eugenia Ashdjian, exactly as it was received from her.
A letter that SHOUTS that no one has the right to play with the RIGHTS of CHILDREN. Not a politician, not an official, not even the President of the country.
Here is the letter of the 16-year-old:
Letter by Eugenia Ashdjian
I am 16 years old. I do not belong to any political party, nor do I have political interests. However, I have an opinion and a voice—one that some are trying to silence.
The term of the Commissioner for the Rights of the Child is ending, and it is rumored that the position will be given to someone who does not meet the ideal criteria for this institution.
An institution, because it is not merely an honorary position. It is the person who represents us and cares about our opinions, our needs, and our rights.
In this position, there must be someone who cares, who listens, and who understands every child and their difficulties.
As a member of the Advisory Team of the Commissioner for the Rights of the Child, I had the chance to get to know this institution well.
Recently, in June 2025, I traveled to Brussels and participated in the EU Child Participation Program, where I exchanged views with children from all over Europe—children with different cultures and mindsets. Through this platform and the exchange of ideas, we reached solutions on critical issues that concern children, such as verbal and physical violence and environmental pollution.
I spoke about our rights and the concerns of every teenager. Along with two of my peers, through this institution, we represented every child in Cyprus who tries in any way to be heard: whether because they have a disability, whether they are being bullied, or whether some “superiors” try to silence them.
This happened because someone believed in my voice… in OUR voice.
What worries me is not that the face of the Commissioner will change, but the way in which it will happen.
The law of the Commissioner emphasizes that the Commissioner must be chosen by the children.
Therefore, according to the law, the Commissioner must be selected by the three organized groups of children that exist in Cyprus: OES, PSEM, and the Cyprus Children’s Parliament.
The Commissioner is our voice.
I have lived and I know that this voice can travel very far: from the office of the Commissioner, where we meet monthly, to Brussels, and all the way to the offices where major decisions are made.
I am not asking for favors or pity.
I am asking for respect for my rights.
Because the institution of the Commissioner is not meant to arrange friendships and interests. It is my voice… it is OUR voice.
