ΑΚΕΛ: Το ερώτημα είναι αν το κράτος και οι αρχές θέλουν και μπορούν να αναμετρηθούν με τον υπόκοσμο

Η έξαρση του οργανωμένου εγκλήματος δικαιολογημένα προκαλεί σοβαρή ανησυχία στους πολίτες της χώρας. Η κοινωνία βλέπει Υπουργούς Δικαιοσύνης και Αρχηγούς Αστυνομίας να αλλάζουν κάθε λίγο, να δηλώνουν αποφασισμένοι να πατάξουν το έγκλημα αλλά στην πράξη τα πράγματα να γίνονται χειρότερα. Η κοινωνία βλέπει, επίσης, να μένουν ανεξιχνίαστες υποθέσεις φόνων, να μην συλλαμβάνονται τα μεγάλα ψάρια στο εμπόριο ναρκωτικών, να μην αγγίζει κανείς τους αρχηγούς των φατριών πώλησης «προστασίας».
Το μεγάλο ερώτημα είναι αν το κράτος και οι αρχές θέλουν και μπορούν να αναμετρηθούν με τον υπόκοσμο. Και το ερώτημα προκύπτει από το γεγονός ότι οι διωκτικές αρχές έχουν στα χέρια τους όλα τα νομικά εργαλεία που χρειάζονται και τα δίκτυα του υπόκοσμου είναι χαρτογραφημένα. Η απάντηση στο ερώτημα δεν μπορεί να δοθεί με λόγια κι ευχολόγια, αλλά με πράξεις και αποτελέσματα.
Το σίγουρο πάντως είναι ότι οι πολίτες δεν μπορούν να αποδεχθούν ότι το κράτος υψώνει τα χέρια ψηλά και δεν συγκρούεται αποτελεσματικά και δραστικά με τον υπόκοσμο και τις φατρίες τους.

The surge in organised crime justifiably causes serious concern among the country’s citizens. Society sees Ministers of Justice and Police Chiefs changing frequently, declaring their determination to crack down on crime, while in practice the situation continues to worsen. Society also sees murder cases remaining unsolved, the major players in the drug trade not being arrested, and no one touching the leaders of the protection rackets.
The big question is whether the state and the authorities are willing and able to take on the underworld. This question arises from the fact that law enforcement authorities have at their disposal all the legal tools they need, and the networks of the underworld are mapped out. The answer to this question cannot be given with words and platitudes, but with actions and results.
What is certain, however, is that citizens cannot accept a state that throws up its hands and fails to confront the underworld and its criminal gangs effectively and decisively.
