Με σκληρή γλώσσα και εμφανή αγανάκτηση, ο ευρωβουλευτής του ΑΚΕΛ, Γιώργος Γεωργίου, παρενέβη δημόσια για την καταστροφική πύρινη λαίλαπα που πλήττει την Κύπρο, αφήνοντας πίσω της στάχτη, απόγνωση και θύματα.
Σε ανάρτησή του στα μέσα κοινωνικής δικτύωσης, ο κ. Γεωργίου εξαπέλυσε πυρά κατά της κυβέρνησης, ενώ δεν παρέλειψε να στηλιτεύσει και την εκκωφαντική σιωπή της Αθήνας και της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης, που –όπως σημείωσε– παρακολουθούν απαθείς μπροστά στην τραγωδία που εξελίσσεται.
Η τοποθέτησή του έρχεται σε μια στιγμή όπου η κοινωνία ζητά απαντήσεις και ευθύνες, την ώρα που οι φλόγες καταπίνουν το φυσικό περιβάλλον, περιουσίες και –το σημαντικότερο– ανθρώπινες ζωές!

Μας στέλνει 26 δασοπυροσβέστες/ όχι τα Candatair που θα μπορούσαν να σβήσουν τη φωτιά με κάποιες ρίψεις.
Η Ευρώπη κείται μακρύτερα…
Χύνουν κροκοδειλια δάκρυα οι κυρίες Ούρσουλα και Μετσόλα αλλά τα αεροπλάνα από την Ισπανία…έρχονται!!!
Όταν οι φωτιές, ευτυχώς, έσβησαν.
Ο Λετυμπιώτης διαβεβαίωνε τον Ιούνη ότι όλα βαίνουν καλώς. Πού χάθηκε τώρα ο λαλίστατος;
Ο Πρόεδρος θυμώνει όταν του υποδεικνύουν πιθανές ευθύνες.
Ο Χαρτσιώτης και θυμώνει και αποθρασύνεται…
Άκου ατυχές γεγονός οι τραγικοί θάνατοι 2 ανθρώπων. Έλεος.
Δεν έχει ακόμα παραιτηθεί αυτός;
Και ο Βίκτωρας μέσα στην αθλιότητά του θυμήθηκε το Μαρί.
Παλαιότερα αποκάλεσα το Μαρί ως το έσχατο καταφύγιο του κάθε πολιτικού λωποδύτη…
Μάλλον είναι επίκαιρο.
Και η κυβέρνηση ανοίγει λογαριασμό για να ενισχύσει ο κόσμος τους πυρόπληκτους…
Καλά, εσείς τι κάνετε;
Οι ευθύνες του κράτους;
Άσε που ο κόσμος της Κύπρου δεν περίμενε τους λογαριασμούς σας για να ανταποκριθεί άμεσα και αποτελεσματικά.
Απόλυτος σεβασμός στους εθελοντές, στα οργανωμένα σύνολα και στον απλό κόσμο για τη γνήσια, αυθεντική συνδρομή τους.
Παρά ταύτα, ρωτήσαμε χτες τους Ευρωπαίους …εταίρους μας:
Περιγράφοντας την τραγική κατάσταση και τις δύσκολες συνθήκες που διαμορφώθηκαν λόγω της πυρκαγιάς και ζητώντας από την Κομισιόν την άμεση ενεργοποίηση έκτακτης οικονομικής ενίσχυσης για την Κύπρο από το Ευρωπαϊκό Ταμείο Αλληλεγγύης, ρωτήσαμε την Ευρωπαϊκή Επιτροπή εάν:
- προτίθεται να επανεξετάσει τη δημιουργία Ευρωπαϊκής Βάσης Αεροπυρόσβεσης στην Κύπρο, μια χώρα που συμπεριλαμβάνεται στην ομάδα των χωρών που είναι επιρρεπείς σε πυρκαγιές
- καθώς και σε τι είδους βοήθεια θα παράσχει στην Κύπρο στο εγγύς μέλλον για την αντιμετώπιση των συνεπειών της καταστροφής και την πρόληψη μελλοντικών φυσικών καταστροφών, δεδομένου ότι η χώρα πλήττεται σε μεγάλο βαθμό από την κλιματική αλλαγή;
Περιμένω θαύματα;
Όχι…
Sharp intervention by Giorgos Georgiou on deadly wildfires – speaks of Athens’ and Brussels’ indifference and the incompetence of those in power

With harsh language and evident indignation, AKEL MEP Giorgos Georgiou made a public intervention regarding the devastating wildfires ravaging Cyprus, leaving behind ashes, despair, and victims.
In a social media post, Mr. Georgiou launched an attack on the government, while also condemning the deafening silence of Athens and the European Union, which – as he noted – remain apathetic in the face of this unfolding tragedy.
His statement comes at a time when society demands answers and accountability, as flames consume the natural environment, property, and – most importantly – human lives.

Cyprus, for Athens, still “lies far away…”
They send us 26 forest firefighters – not the Canadair aircraft that could have extinguished the fire with a few drops.
Europe lies even farther…
Crocodile tears from Ursula and Metsola, but the planes from Spain… are on their way!
Just when the fires, thankfully, have been put out.
Letymbiotis assured us in June that everything was under control.
Where has the ever-talkative one vanished now?
The President gets angry when potential responsibilities are pointed out.
Chartsiotis not only gets angry – he becomes brazen…
Calling the tragic deaths of two people “an unfortunate incident”?
Have some decency.
Has he still not resigned?
And Victor, in all his vileness, brought up Mari again.
I once described Mari as the last refuge of every political scoundrel…
Apparently, it’s still relevant.
And the government is opening an account for people to donate to the fire victims…
Seriously, what are you doing?
What about state responsibility?
Let alone the fact that the people of Cyprus didn’t wait for your bank accounts to respond immediately and effectively.
Full respect to the volunteers, the organized groups, and ordinary citizens for their genuine, authentic contribution.
Nonetheless, yesterday we asked our European partners:
After describing the tragic situation and the difficult conditions caused by the fire, and requesting from the Commission the immediate activation of emergency financial support for Cyprus from the European Solidarity Fund, we asked the European Commission whether:
– It intends to reconsider the creation of a European Aerial Firefighting Base in Cyprus, a country classified among those most vulnerable to wildfires;
– And what kind of assistance it plans to provide to Cyprus in the near future to address the consequences of the disaster and to prevent future natural catastrophes, given that the country is severely affected by climate change.
Am I expecting miracles?
